No revision, not a P&L office, the round i do has no boxes for bags and i have never been given the training to drive RM vans, and i doubt there would be enough vans to go round if i did anywaydvbuk55 wrote:Then they provide it or the walk doesn't go. Re: Can I claim fuel allowance?
In our office (no revision yet), we've just taken on a load of part-timers. In their interview they were told they would HAVE to use their own cars until the revision in September. No car, no job. Guy next to me says it's hardly worth him coming in for 25 hours after he's paid his fuel + wear and tear on his motor. He needs the job ,so is holding out till the revision. I couldn't believe it when i was told. No wonder Royal Mail can make £440m.

What it comes down to is this, it is RM's responsibility to ensure you have the tools/equipment to do the job. Whether that means providing a van/pouch boxes, a lift out, safe drops for bags, a trolley etc. etc. It is your manager/DOM's job and responsibility, not yours.JiminyBillyBob wrote:Yep have a rep, i think? It is not just RM that you could be in trouble with in relation to not having correct insurance, the Police would throw the book at you. And then so would RM, even though in my view, they would be partially responsible for the circumstances, though they and their managers would totally deny it. The blame would be laid entirely on you.
I would stop using my car if I was you, tell your manager ASAP, get the Rep involved, Area Rep if necessary, and if they don't sort it, go above their head, all the way to Moya if necessary. Though, as TBT said, you won't be popular with your boss. Even though you are only asking them to do their job and protect you by showing a duty of care.
It's not worth the risk to you, especially financially, as you could lose out big time.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

Saying all this, to be honest i don't think the police either care or know about the law regarding this.UnhappyGremlin wrote:What it comes down to is this, it is RM's responsibility to ensure you have the tools/equipment to do the job. If you're referring to insurance law, I assure you they do, and will enforce it. I believe it is 6 points and a fine IF they decide to deal with it using the fixed penalty route.JiminyBillyBob wrote:Saying all this, to be honest i don't think the police either care or know about the law regarding this.UnhappyGremlin wrote:What it comes down to is this, it is RM's responsibility to ensure you have the tools/equipment to do the job. Not to mention opening yourself up to being sued by any 3rd parties when your insurance company refuses to pay.

If thats true then you and your manager are in serious trouble if either of you are discovered. Police and RM for you, RM and HSE for them.

You were very very lucky,
Your vehicle could and should have been immediately taken off you, then a garage is called to take it away,
Possible 6 points, fine and fee for garage tow.
