A GRUELLING cycle ride in memory of a beloved friend who died of cancer has raised thousands of pounds.
A team of 14 posties battled rain, hail and a strong headwind to pedal 44 miles from Leatherhead to Littlehampton on Saturday, in aid of The Royal Marsden Hospital.
Bob Hogan and colleagues at the Royal Mail delivery office in Leatherhead have held the event every year since Geraldine Jones died in 1999. She was treated for leukaemia at the hospital for 18 months before she died, aged 60.
So far this year, the riders have raised £3,450 through their efforts.
"Out of the 14 times we've done it we've only had three bad weather ones and Saturday exceeded itself," said Mr Hogan, 57.
Anyone wishing to donate should make cheques payable to Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and send to Littlehampton Cycle Ride, c/o Leatherhead DO, Station Road, Leatherhead, KT22 7AE, or visit http://www.justgiving.com/Robert-Hogan2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
