Dealing with the loss of faith/trust in DOM

Post by makingsounds »

What's the best course of action when dealing with a manager who clearly targets individuals, takes things personnally and has lost the respect, faith and trust of the office. Now I know this could be a post where hundreds of readers will say 'that sounds like our DOM', but this individual has had numerous complaints made against him and he'll bide his time and instigate conduct charges for very minor incidents against anyone who's crossed him in the past. His current target is a very nervous and quiet individual who has failed to update a re-direction on his delivery resulting in a complaint. A slap on the wrist and councelling being the appropriate action you'd think, this manager has charged him with misconduct and is taking him down the conduct code. The individual is beside himself with worry as he has never been in trouble before. He made a verbal complaint against this manager about 6 months ago about being pestered while off sick, this is pay-back. Any suggestions?

Conduct code should only be used after multiple complaints where retraining and coaching have failed. Ask the DOM to demonstrate that this is the case. He won't be able to do this, he probably won't even be able to show that the person in question has received training at all.

Start doing what I do. Record every conversation you have with managers. I have a Dictaphone in my pocket, never had to produce the evidence yet, but I know people who have done so, and many 'issues' seem to go away.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
