St Lukes in Royal Mail delivery row

ST LUKE’S Hospice in Winsford is blaming the Royal Mail for non-delivery of a newsletter which it claims has led to a funding shortfall.

The charity organised for a special delivery of 131,000 copies of its 25th anniversary newsletter for March and early April.

The newsletter contained details of the charity’s Bumper Silver Anniversary Car Superdraw – one of their biggest fundraising events forecast to generate vital money to pay for palliative care and support of local people and their families.

But it says from feedback they’ve received, many people didn’t get a copy.

St Luke’s Promotions Manager Claire Langston said: “The Royal Mail has advised they want more evidence of non-delivery, however it is impossible and impractical for us to ask all our supporters for evidence, as it is time spent wasted instead of focusing on fundraising.

“We feel that the hundreds of messages on our social media platforms and phone calls should be ‘significant’ evidence of a problem, yet Royal Mail deny there is a problem.”

Miss Langston added that fundraisers fear the mailout failure could lead to a worrying fall in entries to the hospice’s Superdraw.

She added: “Over £6500 a day is needed for St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice to open its doors and the majority of that money is found through fundraising such as the incredibly popular Superdraw.

“It is very disappointing that the tickets have not reached as many homes as we would have hoped however we’re very confident that our wonderful community of supporters will rally to help us.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said they were ‘very concerned to learn that an important mailing may not have been delivered on their behalf.’ He added: “The Royal Mail office responsible for delivering the items has confirmed that all items were delivered by our postmen and women in the requested area.

“Every item of mail is important to us and we deliver thousands of door to door items across the UK on a daily basis.

“We have requested evidence to support the claim that the mail was not delivered and we will carry out further investigations immediately this is received.”

St Luke’s are calling on people to purchase Superdraw tickets for £1. Call 01606 553553, email lottery@stlukes-hospice.co.uk or pick up from a hospice shop or the Winsford reception.

Can't rule out the possibility that some people are claiming non receipt as an excuse for cutting back on contributions etc. Can sometimes be easier to deny receiving a letter than refusing to donate, they can be persistent.
However, RM should carry out an internal investigation to prove or disprove the claim, rather than just ask for evidence. It also looks better to the public.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
