Hi i started monday

Post by liamallan »

hi i started work on monday and today (saturday) they gave me a round to do myself i started at 8.30 and finished about 2.30 and its meant to be a 4 1/2 hour walk and i clearly failed. can anyone advise me on how to become faster so i finish at the same time as everyone else and don't look like a div or end up getting sacked :(. like should i walk round on my day off or something to get used to it. i'm not working sunday & monday.

Please Help

Welcome.

Don't worry about it! For your first day by yourself I'd say you did well with those timings. Don't pressurise yourself to do things quicker, it will come with time before you really know it. I was exactly the same as you and in time I got things done quicker and quicker. Give it just a few weeks and you'll have easily have knocked at least an hour of those times.

Stop panicking.
Every new start goes through the same thing.
It's expected.
6 hrs to do a 4.5 hr duty isn't that bad for a newbie.
I've seen guys out until dark o'clock before.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I started last week and when i shadowed the coach i was done in 3 1/2 hours but when im out on my own im alot slower takes me near two hours to sort mail and get bundled then takes me over 4 hours to deliver! I wouldnt worry way i see it is that each and every person in your DO was a new starter once and they would have all been just as slow! Dont feel preasured to keep up with everyone else thats how mistakes are made, managers know you will be slower, my managers are so nice about it if i am back later then the rest and they always say you will get faster in time!

many moons ago it took me over 4 hours on my first day after 3 days training to do a 3 and a half hour round. I used to sweat and panick not to get done for the 1pm finishes, however nd this is gods truth i was on a hard round.... but after just 3 weeks, i was doing the round everyday in just 2 hours, even did it close to 90 minutes somedays.

My tip is.... just try and think ahead, and do your best and walk quick lol

I would say that's pretty good so don't worry about it. The first time I went out on my own I didn't get back until 3.30 and some people have been even later.

I have found i do my round quicker on tuesdays as well there seams to be less on a tuesday! I really wouldnt worry, i heard someone say that my walk takes them 2 hours it takes me more like 31/2 (my round is close to DO and quite nice) im struggling before i get out, it takes me up to 2 hours to sort my frame and parcels and get bundled up to go! Your not alone :)

Tuesday is usually the quietest day for me, and Wednesday has been the heaviest day of the week for the last month. Don't beat yourself up over the timings, it is only your second week.

Pop over to the "how was your day" thread on the Blue Shirts board and you'll see http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... start=8580" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; how everybody's day varies all the time.
