Laundry expenses £69 cheque from Inland Revenue

Post by royalmailsajoke »

I sent the following letter to the inland revenue, with my personal details where the blanks and ( ) are, and received a cheque for £69 (3 years laundry expenses tax back) .
This is £120 per year expenses = £23 tax back x 3 years and a further £3 tax back in this weeks pay + a new tax code which means 50p a week better off.
The most they back pay is four years, including this tax year as one year.
Would be nice for RM to inform us of this, but then £69 x 140,000 employees is a lot of government money.

Dear Inland Revenue

RE: Expenses Allowance

I have been employed as a (job title) at the Royal Mail Delivery Office,(address) since (date). I am obliged to launder the uniform which is supplied to me by the company, this can only be worn whilst at work.

I receive no payment from my employer for laundry expenses, I therefore wish to claim an expenses allowance of £120 for each year since the above date.

I would like any payment to be made by cheque
