Mail workers caught on camera at depot fuming over disciplinary leak

WORKERS at a mail depot where goods were thrown and kicked around are angry after records of their disciplinary interviews were shared around.

Staff at the UK Mail depot in Poole were called in by bosses after the Channel 4 Dispatches programme showed undercover footage shot at their warehouse in Ringwood Road, Poole.

The firm’s chief executive, Guy Buswell, had told the Echo they were launching the investigation and said workers would face disciplinary action if they were found to have behaved in the way shown on television.

Workers claim they were sat down in an office and asked to spill the beans about each other’s behaviour safe in the knowledge that their information would remain confidential.

But the staff were shocked when they later received letters with the records of all the interviews circulated to those involved.

“When we were called in they said ‘Don’t worry, what you say won’t leave this room’,” said one worker.

“If someone loses their job they will know who said bad things about them.”

One worker was told during the interviews that he had been “highlighted as the worst offender”.

The private mail company has denied promising to keep the interviews confidential.

A spokesman said: “In order to undertake a full and proper investigation, there is always a requirement to follow up on points which were made from the individual employee meetings.

“As part of the formal process an individual goes through, there may be a need to share statements as they are an integral part of the investigation procedure.

“Individuals that have attended investigation meetings were advised to not discuss or speak to anybody about the content of their individual meetings.”
