130,000 postal workers nationwide have begun strikes today (Thursday). The 48 hour action started at 12 noon. Workers will be on strike again from 3am Monday for a further 48 hour period.

Talks continue between Royal Mail and the union, however CWU has made it clear that the strikes will not be called off until an agreement is reached.

Billy Hayes, general secretary, said “We are very disappointed that Allan Leighton and Adam Crozier are nowhere to be seen when the future of British postal services are at stake.

“The government has shown complete disinterest in the fate of this dispute. If this was Northern Rock they would be pouring money in. This is a company that they own and they seem to have no interest whatsoever.â€

Funny, i was thinking we haven't seen Croziers mugshot on any news channel since this whole fiasco began, not once.

Why? Because he's a coward. He looks like one, sounds like one.
As for Leighton, he's only on news bulletins to publicise his new book, and to generally appear the bully-boy.

It's a pity that the polls are showing a swing to the Tories as it may prevent Brown calling an election which is the best way to put pressure from Brown on Leyton. I'm sure Brown will have been supporting Leyton to the hilt behind the scenes in his attack on CWU members and Royal Mail - but he can't go for an election unless this dispute is resolved.

But even if the dispute is resolved let's not kid ourselves that will be an end of it - it will only get us through to next April at best and then the attacks will start again but faster and furious than this time in an attempt to destroy the union by the summer - they won't let themselves be caught in a run-up to Xmas situation again when the big mail order customers must be applying enormous pressure directed at Leyton and Crozier.

And the thing is the TNTs and DHLs won't just let the mail order companies go for a 2/3 month contract - they will want them to sign-up for 2/3 years.

It's criminal the brinkmaship that's being played by senior management in this company and it could lead to the destruction of Royal Mail - of course the other paranoids on the board like me probably think that's the game plan anyway so we can be privatised and sold-off.

Earn a few billions from the sale and get rid of the billions in the pension fund blackhole - and no dirt attaches to the government over the pesnion issue because they will no longer own the company.

Saw an article on picket line today rumour being that Brown may be backing down and it is starting to swing to no election this November.
