People living in the rural areas around Cockermouth could be hit with later deliveries as Royal Mail makes changes to the way it operates.
Postmen and women are using “new delivery methods” and have adopted revised delivery routes in and around the town from this week.
Every house, business and organisation is being written to about the changes, although they haven’t been told exactly how it will affect them.
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said that she was unable to identify the areas that would be affected, just saying that the routes were to be changed.
She did, however, say that it would mainly be people living in rural areas that would see a difference.
The changes in Cockermouth have been made to “maintain” the company’s services and keep process “as low as possible”.
Royal Mail say it will continue to deliver in Cockermouth in the morning and for a longer period during the day, with many customers continuing to get their mail by lunchtime.
The time that people receive mail will depend on where they live on the new delivery route and this may be later or possibly earlier.
Royal Mail’s delivery director, Bob Storey, said: “We are proud of the high regard in which our postmen and women are held in Cockermouth. The changes to delivery routes will mean that a member of our local and experienced team will still be delivering to our customers in these areas.
“The local delivery team and I are fully committed to providing a high quality of service that is as reliable and friendly as customers have come to expect from Royal Mail in the Cockermouth area.”
Anyone who has queries about the changes after they have received the letter about what it happening can contact the Royal Mail customer services team on 0845 601 1399.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
