Westminster Council has added its support to a residents campaign to save a Post Office in Pimlico from closure.

Councillor Jonathan Glanz, cabinet member for housing and property, has vowed to keep the Lupus Street branch's rent at the same level for the next five years in a bid to preserve the 'vital resource' for the hundreds of residents on the nearby Churchill Gardens Estate.

The residents have launched a petition, with the support of the Communications Workers Union, to stop the service being merged into existing branches in Vauxhall Bridge Road and Eccleston Street.

Mr Glanz said: "This post office is a vital resource for residents in the area, particularly elderly people who collect their pensions there.

"We have done all we can to keep the post office at this location and have this week put an offer to them to keep their rent at the same level and await a response."
