1 IN 4 SATURDAYS OFF
Hi i am a rep in a delivery office in the south east.
would like to know how other office's with 1 in 4 saturdays off
have worked out how to implement and cover the extra saturdays
off, as the dom is not keen and wants to stick to what we have
but i want to make sure we get 1 in 4 saturdays.
in our office we have 1 week off in very six week's and hope to have
a vote soon and would like to have some answers, if questions ask.
so an help or suggestion would be gratefully received.
thanks

Re: 1 IN 4 SATURDAYS OFF
We are on 1 in 6 Saturdays off the same as you, We have approx 60 deliveries so to have 1 in 4 saturdays off that means there would be 15 deliveries off every Saturday!
So how can it be arranged within the same hours to achieve the 1 in 4 Saturdays off?

Re: 1 IN 4 SATURDAYS OFF
But you already have 10 duties off if you are 1 in 6, so it would mean 5 more.Bahia Feliz wrote:We are on 1 in 6 Saturdays off the same as you, We have approx 60 deliveries so to have 1 in 4 saturdays off that means there would be 15 deliveries off every Saturday!

Saturday only contracts.
Some people working every Saturday - and some people with childcare issues etc might prefer 2 days off in the week.
More floaters/reserves.
It isn't rocket science to work out but with needing sufficient drivers as well with P&L, it does seem to be beyond the ability of many who work at RM.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

To be fair a lot does depend on your full time and part time ratio though.clashcityrocker wrote:But you already have 10 duties off if you are 1 in 6, so it would mean 5 more.Bahia Feliz wrote:We are on 1 in 6 Saturdays off the same as you, We have approx 60 deliveries so to have 1 in 4 saturdays off that means there would be 15 deliveries off every Saturday!

Re: 1 IN 4 SATURDAYS OFF
One way which means you still work same daily hours is in sections of 5. 4 of them have mon, tues, friday and Saturday over a 4 week period. The other (p/t of about 32 hours) works every Monday, Tuesday, friday & Saturday. They have every Wednesday & Thursday off. This suited quite a few in our office because a) they were getting more hours b) less paying for child care. Worked for some may not work for others.

Hi guys thanks for your replys
and clashcityrocker, had already looked at Saturday only contracts
but some people working most saturdays and have two days off during the week maybe worth
looking at as long as thats what they willing to do.
was also looking a part-timer doing week 1 mon.tue, wed week 2 doing thur, frid sat, but thats only 24 hours a week and
i am trying my hardest to raise thier hours beyond thier current 25 hours.
again thanks for the replys

Planners have a plan for my D.O for this which is operationally viable but comes with an unpleasant price tag

Re: 1 IN 4 SATURDAYS OFF
But that will be a deliberate ploy to get the staff to vote against the plan.
The manager/DOM obviously doesn't want the staff to have the 1 in 4 off, as it will be difficult to accomplish, hence you're offered it, but in a way that you suffer in some way to get it, or the DOM puts in place a plan they hope you will reject.
In one of our revisions, we asked for 4 day weeks. But they didn't want it, but to show they weren't listening to us, they offered it to us, but working every Saturday all year round, knowing we'd never vote for it. They said it was 'the only way to achieve it'. We put forward our proposal, which gave us every other Saturday off, i.e. 1 in 2, and achieved all their other aims, but they rejected it without actually looking at it properly.
This will have happened up and down the country, they offer you crap duties in one plan, to force you to pick the duty structures they wanted from the start.

Re: 1 IN 4 SATURDAYS OFF
Lose Under The Roof SA into duty time which creates two hybrids in order to utlise all the duty hours.
PT staff to do a 4 day week 7. 5 hour day instead of a 5 day week 6 hour day and will be floaters (day off cover) with every Wednesday and Thursday off and no Saturdays off.
To get hours and workload in harmony with 1 in 4 Saturdays off thats how it works.
PT staff are unhappy to say the least as they do not wish to work longer days and the more senior ones feel that their seniority should count for something and should hold a round instead of a floater duty.

Re: 1 IN 4 SATURDAYS OFF
Yes it's not as easy as you may think to get these revisions in and accepted. Pretty much our PT staff work every Thu, Fri, Sat with obviously Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed off they voted to accept this in preference to other options. However on reflection other options were possible but not explored in some depth in order to get the, what is, 1 in 3 Saturdays off. This is the sad situation where PT staff are shafted again.Big Daz wrote:Lose Under The Roof SA into duty time which creates two hybrids in order to utlise all the duty hours.

Re: 1 IN 4 SATURDAYS OFF
This does seem to be the preferred method of achieving the 1 in 4 off across the country, when the planner/DOM fails to get the 3 x 52 hr weeks in a row, and the 4th week as rest. Some PT it suits, some it doesn't. I'm Ft, and I wouldn't like it. And I would've kicked up a proper stink over it.dvbuk55 wrote:Yes it's not as easy as you may think to get these revisions in and accepted. Trouble is, if there are enough staff that benefit, it will get voted in. Had it have been me on the receiving end, I'd have got the PT staff together, told them we wanted 1 in 4 off like everyone else, and if they didn't budge, I would have had all the PT staff file a grievance each.
Would it not technically be discriminating against PT staff to make them work every Saturday?

Re: 1 IN 4 SATURDAYS OFF
we have 1 in 4, but according to management it is 1 in 4 throughout the year and can change based on manager operational needs. so its actually totaly bull f***ing s**t.

Re: 1 IN 4 SATURDAYS OFF
Well, if that is the case, which I doubt, diarise on a calendar/smart phone when you are on/off on Saturday, and make sure you get them. You may end up with a few off in a row.Stella102 wrote:we have 1 in 4, but according to management it is 1 in 4 throughout the year and can change based on manager operational needs. so its actually totaly bull f***ing s**t.
It would appear they are resolving staffing issues by screwing you and your colleagues over. I'm pretty sure that it will only create a much larger problem for them in the future. If 20 of you work every Saturday for 3 months, how are they going to be able to give you all the following 3 Saturdays off? Doesn't make sense.
