A fraud investigation has been launched after tens of jobseekers were conned out of thousands of pounds by falling victim to an internet scam.
Up to 100 people may have been duped, with around 30 people turning up at the Royal Mail’s depot in Great Wyrley expecting to start work with the delivery service.
They had responded to phony adverts posted on job websites and had each paid a bogus £60 fee for a CRB check using online payment service Ukash.
But when they turned up at the depot, on the Landywood Enterprise Park in Holly Lane, they were met by bemused workers and found no jobs existed.
Pc Dudley Pinson said around 100 people had made inquiries about the jobs.
A notice on Ukash’s website warns that criminals have been known to use their service.
