I don't think much has changed,I remember people crossing picket lines 20 years ago for much the same selfish reasons.
I think job security is a worry as always and my personal opinion is that the union has failed to engage the membership in recent years which could come back to bite us all but I don't really think people are any more selfish than in the past.
That's just my experience/opinion though.

We're all getting shafted by this new management system.
Every rep I speak with has more ongoing B&H / appeals / grievances

Han Solo: obviously you don't get the meaning of solidarity, if you remember there are more delivery than processing by a huge majority and it was a democratic vote that took place. Either way Processing did not swing the vote it was delivery so don't get childish and start spouting your self centred crap! however your attitude does sums up the problem with today's society.

Billy's speech at the end of conference was one of his best and its through this strategy he laid down that the top table are starting to act together. hopefully they will be able to address our issues but like all negotiations its about give and take so there will be points we will not want but if overall its better than what we got with the future looking bleak its better than nothing.

Taking into account the last strike and the secret talks then the above seems to give the present leadership far too much room to make it up as they go along and then claim it could have been a lot worse without them.I will try and find Billys speech and learn exactly what this new strategy is .All I can say is that looking round my office then membership has dropped and the CWU influence is virtually invisible and despite a few of us trying to raise alarm bells on this issue it seems not to be a big concern for the branch- yet shortly a ballot is to be held.

The new strategy for organising the CWU seems a bit short in detail but if it dosnt contain a direct line to HQ/outdoor dept for local reps who have lost confidence in their branch then I dont expect much to change round here.I also think there needs to be some sort of red card for reps that dont do the job properly,otherwise its do as I say and dont do as I do which is putting off some non members joining.

Totally agree.

No top down accountability means you are relying on members holding dodgy reps and branches to account,that's fine and how it should be....if you're reading politics at university but absolute bollocks when you're facing the apathy of members who know how the game is played at branch,have real jobs and families and would rather not waste their time on a lost cause when it's much simpler just to ignore the union unless they really need it,cancel their subs or just not bother to join..
