HUNDREDS of letters and parcels have failed to make it to recipients after being kept at a Royal Mail employee’s home.

Dating as far back as 2011, the postman in question stored the post at his house which included confidential letters and bank statements, when they should have been delivered to houses in Burncross, Chapeltown and Grenoside.

It has not been confirmed yet how many people have been affected. However, it has been confirmed that a postman is no longer working for Royal Mail following an investigation.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: “A postman from Chapeltown delivery office was suspended and is no longer with the business following an investigation into the intentional delay of a quantity of mail.

“Royal Mail has a zero tolerance approach to any dishonesty and that stance is shared by the overwhelming majority of postmen and women, who are honest and hard-working and who do all the can to protect the mail and deliver it safely.

Royal Mail have apologised to anyone who has been affected and said that anyone caught delaying mail would face serious disciplinary measures and could possibly face prosecution.
