WHITSTABLE UPDATE!

Post by juliew »

It's been far too long since I set the record straightto but to respond to Richard Broughton Tunstall especially - there was a press statement in both Whitstable newspapers last week regarding the Whitstable Delivery Office move. Let Royal Mail be under no illusion that any deal that may have been struck with Bob Gibson of the CWU and, by proxy, with our postal staff in Whitstable in the form of concessions regarding staff transition to working in over 20 vans, up to 4 trips per day, backwards and forwards to Canterbury - a city already flagged for its diminishing air quality - gets no votes from the majority of the people in Whitstable.
By all means, Royal Mail, throw taxpayers' money at this pre-privatisation exercise. Try and force this move through, even though, pathetically, and in spite of all your supposed business acumen, you haven't yet been able even to find a buyer for the delivery office building which has been on the market for years. Pathetic indeed! Especially given that I know the value of the building and the salaries of staff involved in its sale. Compared to the hourly rate your efficient postal staff are awarded, this is shameful by comparison!
I am fully aware of the problems hindering the sale of the Cromwell Road building - and so are you. So continue with this move -and be further aware, Ray Tompsett and Moya Greene, that the people of Whitstable WILL NOT GO QUIETLY. National newspapers and television stations will follow all our protest boycotts. Especially the junk mail boycott so our advice is - don't ever underestimate the people of Whitstable. Julie Wassmer.

Wish some more of my colleagues had this level of determination to stand up for themselves and each other.
Keep going, well said. :Applause

So what's the deal?
Any word from the local CWU or have they lost their voice?
Have they accepted the move?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
