Newport postal names mix up investigated by Royal Mail

A HOMEOWNER who lives in a road without numbers has criticised the Royal Mail after being apparently plagued by a post mix-up for nearly two years.

Ted Netherman, 72, accused postal workers of bungling residents' deliveries in Beach Road, Newport, which has house names reflecting its proximity to the Severn estuary like Glandwr water's bank and Glan-y-mor sea shore.

The former lorry driver said he routinely received his neighbours' post in Royal Mail bundles tied with elastic bands.

On other occasions, he claims his mail simply was not delivered to his address after checking with senders who told him the post has been sent.

He has repeatedly contacted his delivery office but said calls went to a voicemail message urging him to call back later.

He said he had also taken up the matter with postmen, but claimed they blamed each other for mis-deliveries.

The dad-of-two said: "Very often we don't get mail. It's happened several times. It's bad service. When you try to call about it, you can't get through. Postmen don't check the bundle and put them through the letterbox.

"At one point I had a big sign on my box saying 'It's Glandwr not Glan-y-mor' but it made no difference."

Royal Mail this week urged Mr Netherman to get in touch with its customer service line after he was unable to get through to the sorting office.

Mr Netherman added: "This has gone on for 18 months to two years. When I try to call the sorting office, you can't get through and get an answer phone.

"It says they can't take the message at the moment and ring back and whenever I ring back I get the same message."

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "Unfortunately the customer has not contacted our customer services team to initiate a detailed investigation into the concerns raised about the delivery of mail to Beach Road, Newport.

"Royal Mail takes the quality of service to our customers mail very seriously and encourages them to contact our customer services centre if they are experiencing any problems with their mail."

What about not having an address that is difficult to decipher, it's fine when it's the normal postie who has been on it for years and knows all the ins and outs of the duty but these days, new posties, different posties, managers, OT kings, they are more likely the reasons why his post is going astray.

Well, 18 months/2 years down the line makes him partially responsible. He should have contacted customer services earlier and started the process off. If he only wanted to deal with the DO directly, and experienced repeated failed phone calls, why not just go down there in person? Should have gone to callers office and demanded to speak to a manager. The time factor is entirely his fault, for the way he went about it.

As far as mis-deliveries etc. go, there is no evidence as there has been no investigation or monitoring of the complaint. Which he is at fault for, as he failed to get the complaint registered at the earliest time. Telling the posties isn't likely to have much effect either, they may try to make sure the problem stops but, if there are multiple posties in use/different walks etc. then it isn't going to be easy.

Why wait this long to make such a fuss?

Is it possible this is a result of a P&L revision? If so it would be a possible explanation of some issues.
