Hi all, had an email last week saying I have been offered a job (25 hours a week) and just waiting for the security checks to come back. I shouldnt have any probs with them just wondering on average how long they take as need to give my notice in at my current place of work.

Which email have you received, what is the subject line? I joined last year, and had an email "Your Application" to say that I had passed the interview.

Five days later I had one called "Step 6" that asked about whether it would be my only job and a few other things. I replied to that and a day later received one called "Conditional Offer" which said the mandatory checks would take about 14 days.

Just under 3 weeks later I received one called "Step 8" which asked when I could attend the Induction Day, it gave a choice of two dates and the date of induction was then the start date. I was unemployed so that wasn't a problem, but if I had need to give notice of more than two weeks I would have had a problem.

Had one this morning saying they are starting the checks. Only have to give 1weeks notice at work so all should be ok.

my advice is start walking now a mile or two a day and slowly build it up to about ten, that way u will have it easy cos im in my fifth week now and my calves are starting to hurt daily now, i think i've got another week or two till i'm at the right fitness, i thought i was fit, my calves have doubled, but im only just getting my time down to four hours for a monday/tuesday round which are the lightest days mostly, and buy cheap working clothes cos the pouches will ruin your clothes ! Good luck cos its satisfying when you see you times coming down each day best job I've ever had wish id done it years ago

Walking is no problem, I spend about 9 hours a day on my feet at the moment and dread to think how far I walk.

Ah but do you do it carrying something over one shoulder and something in your hand. I am ex forces and thought myself quite fit and I struggled the first few weeks.

No but spend most of the chucking car tyres and wheels about the workshop or moving 4 tyres at a time.

So got an email yesterday saying I have pass the security checks :). Got my induction on the 29th at Hayes delivery office.

FF postie you will be fine fitness wise if you do a manual job already, and you are joining at the time of the year that job really is fantastic with the summer approaching.

Really looking foward to it now, already know a few on the inns and outs of royal mail as i work as a retained firefighter with a couple if them. Decided to book a room at the local holiday in. As I dont fancy a 2 hour drive to get to hayes for 8 am down the M40 on a monday morning for the induction.

So far so good, had my driving in friday and passed that so went out on my delivery on my own saturday instead on being in a shared van, found being out in my own alot better that in a shared van. Had a quick chat witg the boss on friday too and there might be a chance in a couple of weeks to go full time as we had a guy leave yesterday.

GOOD NEWS!!!!
Was chatting to the Branch Manager a couple of weeks ago after passung my driving course :), he said that they may be a full time postion comini up as someone was leaving at the end of the following week. So fast foward about a month and I was chatting to the union guy about stuff and he asked me if the Manager had asked me about going full time which he had not since our first chat so he said he would have another chat to him about it, about 5 mins later as I was bundling up my round (which I have had since the start, and is quite easy) the manager asked if I still wanted to go full time and I said yes (of course) and he said I start full time a week monday.
So two months into my 4 month temp contract I have got full time. Now I need to learn how to do all the other stuff that us posties do and not just stick letters through letter boxes.
GO ME!!!!!
