I only have one earphone in. I still stop, look & half listen before crossing the road. And the relief from boredom by listening to music easily outwieghs the risk to life from doing so.

In our office you're not supposed to, though quite a lot do. It is against H&S, as you are not able to hear cars etc. Which leads to, obviously, if there is an accident - converted to incident soon after naturally - and you admit/they find out you're wearing earphones, then conduct code will follow, and you will be blamed.
I'm sure that our wonderful, caring overlords have our best interests at heart when this form of 'elf & safetee' is used as a punitive measure; although if this was solidly the case then logically it would follow that we would not be employing people with severe hearing impediment such as one chap in our office? :hmmmm
UnhappyGremlin wrote:You also can't hear customers shout after you when you've form left their latest shiny piece of crap. Which is why people wear them I assume.... :cuppa
Or people that pull up out of nowhere and demand that you immediately stop what you're doing and attend to their "oi, where's xxxx road" query.
Oh yeah, 5live for me... :cuppa
Technically it is tantamount to the same thing. Difference being not hiring a person because they're deaf is discrimination, and it is a natural affliction. Not being able to hear because you're listening to music is a decision made by you, and this point would be made in any conduct case. And, as we all know, they use any and every chance and circumstance they can to lay the blame on the postie.

On a separate note, I like to wear mine in the office, to drown out the managers bullshit. :Very Happy Though, if an accident/incident occurred, I would still be blamed.

Got told off for that, playing it too loud. Apparently it would be a negative representation of the company, in the eyes of our customers, and the public.

why would you cross road with headphones in thats just stupid...

i pull my headphones out and say good morning to everyone..(i'm polite you see)

only problem is when you're too much of a trance- posted mail through wrong box and they come chasing after you- and you cant hear them... so they've chased you so far and ended up posting their neighbours mail! SCORE!

one day i was in a foul mood- 'disturbed' down with the sickness... seemed to walk faster....

Please remember everyone is welcome on this site. Customers, CWU Officers, Royal Mail Managers, all Royal Mail employees, the General Public, the press, and even MPs, so please do not resort to abuse if people of a different political persuasion or viewpoint to you, post on a thread.

If someone has a different position to you please respect their right to have differing views, and enjoy yourself when picking holes in their position in a constructive way. We would much rather have a long winded well thought out argument, picking out weak points in someone's position, than have a thread full of 1 line insults.
