Re: WORKING ALONE IN THE CALLERS OFFICE
you can have basic needs out on delivery ? . what about health and safety grounds for a postie with no mobile phone on their own .? if they have an accident in a rural location in the wind and rain . how on earth are you supposed to work delivering mail on your own . ?lewesspudgun wrote:How on earth are you supposed to work in the callers office on your own. Even your basic needs require you to leave the office, even for a short time. All other staff out on delivery or on meal breaks. Surly this is not right, even on health safety grounds. DIM says other staff come and go during the day, but this could mean 15 to 20 minuets alone.... NOT HAPPY.

Seven hours in the callers office tomorrow. Apart from my break it'll be non stop from start to finish. It's not a cushy number and it's safe to say I would rather be out on delivery.

Re: WORKING ALONE IN THE CALLERS OFFICE
Worked for years on delivery to be honest I thought the callers looked easy till I had a go.Thought I'd seen everything from nice to nasty customers until I worked in the callers. It really is a different world some of the people you get in there are beyond belief and on top of that I don't want to talk about what Christmas is like in there.

Also once you've done a turn in the callers you suddenly get a new appreciation for why you should put as much information on a P739 as possible.

Re: WORKING ALONE IN THE CALLERS OFFICE
I agree. Let them sort out the problems. They're usually the cause of most of them. And it's their job. Why should some postie get the grief they didn't cause?aiden01 wrote:if there is a problem with customer,s just give them dom,s number they love that
I was put in against my wishes once, every time a customer kicked off and I couldn't pacify them in a minute or so, I asked them if they would like to speak to a manager, obviously they said yes, then I either fetched one from their hiding place, or gave them the direct phone number. Haven't been back in since. Weird.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

15 or 20 minutes alone....is that all?
In our office....on a one day in particular....there is only one staff member on from 6.00 am until 12.30pm....(doing the work of two/three people)....i have covered this duty several times when the person goes off sick/hols....it is fooking knackering....how managers allow it is beyond me...the list of jobs to do it just mind numbing...many times customers are left waiting while firms mail/packets are collected...what cheeses me off is the fact there are several managers who could easily help, but seldom do because i genuinely and firmly believe they fear our customers..and just cannot bear the thought of facing an angry customer...the longest i have ever worked alone in box counter is 9 hours...we have been told that our office is in one of the top five in the UK for the number of customers we deal with and the services we offer(which is 90% of what a normal post offices offers)..whoever says working in box counter is easy are talking out of their backsides.

Re: WORKING ALONE IN THE CALLERS OFFICE
Ooooooooo where do I start?!?! In my opinion every postie should spend a day in the callers office, then they'll have a new appreciation for what it's like in there.
Little things like:
1) being able to read what's written on the p739
2) ticking all the necessary boxes (whether it's a Tracked, Rec etc)
3) writing the address on the card (I get some funny looks when I have to ask a customer what their address is)
4) actually writing the correct address on the card
5) putting the tracking number on the card - this does help a lot, even though it takes a couple of seconds longer to do
6) bringing the item back to the office - again this does help, instead of leaving it with a neighbour but not informing the customer or us
7) last but not least, my favourite....putting the right card through in the first place! And not one for another office (as we have form lefts that go to another office)
And that's just one little aspect - then there's the grumpy customers who want to know why their packet wouldn't go through the letterbox, why it wasn't left with their neighbour, why they have to pay custom charges, why it's been sent back after 18 days...... you get my drift. And that's not including the 1000 other jobs we have to fit in......lol
