Parcel courier raises weight bands

In response to the much-publicised changes which have just come into effect for Royal Mail's parcel customers, one of its new rivals has streamlined its pricing structure.

Collect Plus is now offering just three price bands for its services, based on their weight. The lightest packages, weighing up to 2kg (4.4lbs) are charged at the lowest rate, while parcels weighing between 2kg and 5kg (4.4lbs-11lbs) are classed as 'regular', and others heavier than this, up to a maximum of 10kg (22lbs), attract the highest charge.

At the same time, the company has kept the cost of its basic service for the lightest parcels unchanged.

Regardless of their weight, the maximum packet size which it will carry is 50cm x 30cm x 30cm. But the company's chief executive, Neil Ashworth, said this limit will be raised in the next few weeks.

He added: "We know that every penny matters when it comes to starting out so we want to make it as easy and cost-effective as possible for entrepreneurs and small businesses to send parcels.“

Without seeing the pricing structure for the bands it is hard to say, but, is this the first of many targeting RM customers as a result of the recent pricing cock up? Can only assume they have reacted to make their services cheaper than ours. Already know a couple of businesses that have switched to Hermes because they will save 50% on postage compared to our new prices.
