Andrew Thomson has been ordered to be of good behaviour for six months and has been suspended from his job pending an investigation into his conduct.

Solicitor Rosie Scott told Perth Sheriff Court that her client hoped he would retain his employment despite the nature of his conviction.

The 44-year-old, of Fincastle, near Pitlochry, was found guilty of indecently breaching the peace after a string of witnesses told the police he was mowing the lawn naked from the waist down.

During his trial before Sheriff Fiona Tait, the court heard that Thomson exposed himself to several people by raising his arms as they went past so his T-shirt would lift up and expose the fact he was not wearing any underwear.

Despite his claims that he had been wearing a pair of boxer shorts, Sheriff Tait said she believed the evidence from witnesses.

Thomson was found guilty of conducting himself in a disorderly manner on August 9 last year at the B9019 Pitlochry to Tummel Road, at his home address while naked from the waist down, by exposing his private parts to passing motorists and committing a breach of the peace.

Sentence was further deferred to November 6 to allow him to be of good behaviour.

A postman who stood in his garden to flash at passing motorists claimed he was mowing the lawn in the nude.

Andrew Thomson exposed his genitals to several people while he was standing in his front garden with no trousers or underpants on.

On Thursday, a sheriff ordered Thomson to behave for six months after hearing he faced a disciplinary hearing in a bid to keep his job.

Perth Sheriff Court heard how he was only wearing a T-shirt and would raise his arms as people went past so it would lift up and expose his lack of underwear.

He had denied indecently breaching the peace and told the court he had decided to mow the lawn without any trousers on, claiming he had a pair of boxer shorts on under his T-shirt.

Sheriff Fiona Tait said she believed the string of witnesses who had seen his genitals and found Thomson guilty of indecently breaching the peace on 9 August last year.

Thomson, from Fincastle, Pitlochry, was found guilty of standing outside his home, on the B8019, whilst naked from the waist down and exposing his private parts.

One woman told the court she had been driving on the Pitlochry to Tummel Bridge road when she clearly caught sight of Thomson lifting his top to expose himself.

Fiscal depute Robbie Brown said: "They saw a man without trousers on and he was a man who didn't appear to have underpants on. They clearly saw something.

"The only issue is whether or not he was in fact wearing any underpants and they thought he was not. The witnesses were adamant about what they saw. They said he had his arms raised."

Solicitor Rosemary Scott, defending, said her client was "quite clear he was wearing underpants" and that it was for the court to judge whose evidence was reliable.

Sheriff Fiona Tait said: "I have had the benefit of assessing all of the evidence. I may say that I found all three Crown witnesses to be impressive. They didn't seem to me to have colluded. I am satisfied the Crown has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt."

Mrs Scott told the court Thomson hoped he would be able to keep his job despite the nature of his conviction.

Thomson was £250 in 2011 when he was found with cannabis he had grown in the vegetable patch at his home.

Specialist growing equipment was found in his home along with a stash of the drug worth around £400. The postman had accidentally produced twice as much cannabis as he had planned.

Solicitor Rosemary Scott, defending, said: "The cannabis found was grown by him. He tries to be self-sufficient from the point of view of his vegetables and other produce and he has always grown plants.

"He then decided to try and grow cannabis. He tried with two plants, which is what he always does with something new because he often finds that one of any sort of plant doesn't take and grow. It was the case here that both took and both grew."

Tayside Police were given a tip-off that Thomson was involved with drugs and raided his home while he was out delivering the mail on his Saturday morning round.

Well he was showing of his gardening skills and his love of nature "sufficient from the point of view of his vegetables " meat and two veg anyone. look I am sure he is an upstanding member of the community!
