Royal Mail bosses stop postie’s wages after finger is sliced off

A ROOKIE postie forced to stay off work after a letterbox severed his finger had his wages stopped by Royal Mail chiefs.
Gary French, 49, was shocked to be told he’d get just his £70 weekly state sick pay while recovering from the freak accident.
The dad of three’s union stepped in and got his wages reinstated — but mail bosses axed his pay AGAIN in a bizarre U-turn after his story appeared in The Scottish Sun.
A pal of Gary’s said: “He’s lost enough without losing his wage too. He’s had a forced amputation and is now permanently disabled.
“For the Royal Mail to stop his money is scandalous.”
We told on Tuesday how Gary’s right index finger was left a bloodied stump when a letterbox flap snapped on it as he delivered mail to a house in West Linton, Peebles-shire.
Cops retrieved the top of his digit from the empty house and Gary was rushed to hospital — but docs couldn’t reattach it and amputated what was left.
After his cash was stopped a second time the Communication Workers Union took up his fight again — and Royal Mail chiefs last night caved in and reinstated Gary from Peebles, on full pay.
His pal added: “Gary is very thankful to The Scottish Sun and the union. He just wants to put this behind him and get back to work.”
The CWU said: “Mr French’s pay has been fully reinstated. He will complete light duties until he has recovered fully.”
Neither the Royal Mail or Gary would comment.

He is not entitled to sick pay if he has not been employed for 12 months as agreed with the CWU ?

Wilful Delay its the catch all ,no matter of any mitigation .As it has attracted media attention i would settle for no less than Area Representation good luck

I don't know why anyone is surprised by this.
This is how they operate.
An accident has happened, it needs to be changed to an incident or it has to be the postie's fault. How else are they going to reel out the zero accidents nonsense?
I'm only surprised he hasn't been charged with wilful delay.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Can say I expected anything other than these types of actions by RM. It's the way they operate, how they 'massage' the figures, reducing accidents has been a target for a while, but they do it in such an underhand way.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
