Me personally despite all the hatred towards me offers this... i find that now saturdays are now worse than what you would find on a monday and tuesday, thats fact, I remmeber the days leaving the office on single delivery at 7.30am and being finished no later than 10. Now we are leaving around half 9 with a 2pm finish. No chance will this happen

Don't like the new working week system. I think if we go 5 days a week, our workload will increase and absorbing will be reduced due to heavier workload and I could be losing my job as full time reserve but no one knows. I would love to get 25 grand or something similar for EVR and pay everything off and travel for a bit. Then decide what to do in future.

It is a pointless poll , Ofcom have just published their review into users needs and this included consulting the big customers over the 6 day service. The review concluded most customers support a 6 day service. Royal Mail have welcomed the results and are still committed to a 6 day service.

Of com also confirmed that to remove any day from the USO would need to go back to a vote of parliament.

Royal Mail's parcels strategy Includes Saturdays as they deliver an higher percentage of parcels first time.

The CWU policy which is debated at every conference is that we support a 6 day service. Not only due to the impact on jobs in deliveries but you would not need a late shift or a night shift in a mail centre on a Friday , or collections on a Friday. RDCs and VOCs would not need to be open Fridays. on top of that more mail centre staff would have to have more staff in over the weekend to ensure that work is collected , processed and into delivery offices on a Monday which will have Fridays , Saturdays and Sundays work on the Monday.

Whoever is saying that 1/6 of the delivery staff would lose their jobs is scare mongering, for a start in our office we would still need 3 holiday holiday cover, and there would probably be another position for for sickness cover that could be shared between offices.

We also have more than two or three in the area coming up for retirement, there would be no need to replace them, so saying 1/6 would lose their jobs is wrong.

Saturdays could also be covered by PT's wanting to make their hours up, or FT's wanting overtime.

I can't see a problem with a 5 day week.

I'm sure they could easily find 1/6th of the workforce to go on EVR terms,no problem.

Maybe if Saturday was a much shorter day like it used to be people would vote no.

How on earth can you run saturday's on an ad-hoc basis??? We need a 6 day week, NO JOB LOSSES, and MORE DSA and MORE D2D.......then we just might get more hours put back into offices. We may even get the part timers, ( who are getting royally screwed over), made up to full-time!! What is this obsession some posties have got with shorter hours and less work??? I just don't get it.

Time to move on,6 days a week it is...
The regulator has issued a statement confirming its statutory duty, powers and willingness to act. This is a commitment to protect the UK’s six-day-a-week, one-price-goes-anywhere postal service.

User needs

Ofcom has stated that there is no need to change the scope of the Universal Service. The regulator found that nine out of ten consumers think the current service levels meet their needs.

The latest News Flash points out that the Universal Service is enshrined in law. Only Parliament could change the requirement to provide a six-day-a-week, one-price-goes-anywhere postal service.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I see it all the time that it is the part timers that do the sheer graft. And full timers want to do the minimum it takes. Its the part timers that do the more physical work and alot go out for longer deliveries to get a few extra hrs overtime. I have seen it in many offices that the newer starters are the best workers. Im not gonna make my point again about deliveries... but i see all part timers preping there own duties quicker than fulltimers that have been on there own frames for years

Its not right, in 20 years time royal mail will reep the benefits of the staff coming through now, and when the older generation go the new breed as i like to call them wil take over and do the job better than its currently being done now by many incompetant posties. In all my 10 years service i cant believe how bad my fellow full timers are

saturday should be optional extra... OT rate. the problem there is there is no guarantee on who can cover it... even if it was just sorted in the frames.

doesnt matter much to me anymore... i like a day of in the week- as a 5 day week is just so tiering. It not like a normal office job 9-5 and weekends off- its so much more exhausting... its getting busy and the days are longer-
and when your saturday does come round- you being harrassed to work it. 6 in 1.

saturdays are supposed to be quiet??? so why did i finish at 2.30 yesterday?
