Define "flexing" and while you are at it define "Fishtank".
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Variation of hours – Where necessary, for example when traffic volumes are unexpectedly high or resourcing issues arise, individuals may be asked and may themselves request to vary their duty times by up to 30 minutes on a swings and roundabouts basis. Again, individual circumstances will be taken into account and total weekly contractual hours will not change.

Employees are not required to work beyond their scheduled finish time if they do not wish to do so. However consideration should be given to the bullet point above where that situation arises.

we all make ourselves available for our shifts, its not our fault if there is not enough work, or if there too much you have the option to cut off or do over time.

Fish, I always find the quote 'Again individual circumstances will be taken into account' is the main problem regarding this agreement. The reason being is if we are being told by the Union it is entirely up to the individual whether they agree to work beyond their scheduled hours or not, why the hell should individual circumstances be taken into account, because it is totally irrelevant what your circumstances are if you take the Unions point of view.

Surely the worlds bestest planners have given you longs and shorts and filled your days up with work. Unless the planner has got it wrong :left: then you shouldn't have much spare time to flex with anyway.

Don't you think that as Mondays are busy and always have been, then it shouldn't count as having 'unexpectedly high' mail volumes, as it is clearly not the case, and therefore flexing should not be being mentioned at all.

Yes.
That's what the rep,the weekly resource meetings and the traffic forecasts are for.
If the forecast is around 100k and the actual is around 100k it isn't unexpected it's planned and the resource should already be planned to deal with it.
The only exception would be unusually high and unforeseen sick absence but again it should be well outside normal parameters before the flexibility clause kicks in.

I agree,
It's vague and weak and meaningless and stupid.
Why it's there other than to cause conflict at local level..is a mystery to me.

TB I think he already knows the meaning as he used the word in one of his entries on this thread. The guys who went home, did so because although they were told they would lose their overtime, they still wanted to finish early. The overtime should be paid if they fulfilled their contracted hours on the Saturday, even if it meant sitting around for several hours.

There are no weekly resource meetings in my unit, so they can't plan to deal with anything. My boss just resorts to bullying and disciplinary threats. Which I'm sure is the case in many units up and down the country.
