The Royal Mail Statutory Pension Scheme - Pensioners living in Cyprus - UPDATED

The managers of the Royal Mail Statutory Pension Scheme have updated their advice for pensioners living in Cyprus. Their advice is as follows:

"As you know the current banking situation in Cyprus is fast-moving and subject to change. The UK Government wants to protect the interests of our members in Cyprus, and has taken the decision to put a hold on paying all UK government pension payments to all bank accounts in Cyprus and accounts at Cypriot banks in Greece temporarily while Cypriot banks remain closed, and until the situation becomes clearer. This includes the Royal Mail Statutory Pension Scheme pensions and benefits. Payments to pensioner members resident in Cyprus with UK or non-Cypriot accounts are being paid normally.

As a Royal Mail Statutory Pension Scheme beneficiary we are writing to strongly advise you that you should consider changing your designated bank account to which your pension is paid to a UK based bank if you hold a UK account, which is unaffected by the current situation.

If you wish to do that you will need to provide us with details of the bank account where pension payments are currently paid and also of the bank account you want to transfer your pension payments to. You will need to give us both the bank account number and the sort code of both the old and new accounts. You also MUST provide us with a copy of your signature. You may either:

1. Fax these bank details and your signature to us on +44 (0)1246 546766 and start the fax header with "FAO Pensioner Payroll - Cyprus"

2. Email these bank details with a PDF file containing your signature to pensions.helpline@royalmail.com and in the subject box type "Pensioner Payroll - Cyprus"

3. Send the bank details, with your signature, to us at the following address:

Royal Mail Pension Service Centre, Pensioner Payroll, PO Box 500,CHESTERFIELD, S49 1WX, UNITED KINGDOM

If you do choose to send us the bank details by fax or email then you must also confirm this in writing to us by sending the bank account details and signature to the address listed in number 3 above within four weeks."
