Union set to endorse mail boycott

They would only deliver mail 2 or 3 days a week, in highly populated areas, big towns and cities. They would not deliver in smaller villages and other rural areas, because there is no money in it. It would be the height of cherry picking, done on minimum wage. That is where they intend to make their money. We would end up with the rest.

...so whats the ' get around' for the government who on the one hand want to privatise Royal Mail but on the other hand employ a regulator who at first glance seems to be undermining the sale ..the whole privatisation/boycott/regulator story has so many layers to it that i can feel another one of these coming on...I always thought that to privatise Royal Mail the regulator would have to nip the above scenario in the bud,they have after 5 years of subsidising the bandits allowed Royal mail to make a profit on DSA so whats the jackanory ..is it possible to 'sell' Royal Mail and make it an attractive investment with the above regulation still in place?

Once the company is sold the Government won't care. The sale will not be undermined by the company performing badly in a financial sense, in fact it will likely help to expedite the sale. It's not about it being an attractive investment with this type of regulation in place, once privatised vast levels of jobs will be cut, which is the biggest expenditure for RM, so turning a profit will be quick and easy.

erm do WE actually get a vote on this or are they now deciding what we want to do?

eh...mmm good point,I had presumed that a boycott was industrial action so a ballot is required but maybe because the action is not directly taken against your employer then its not required.hopefully somebody has posted the right answer by the time ive posted this.

Good point. However the employer SHOULD BE IN FULL SUPPORT OF THIS ACTION BY THE CWU.
Why?
They have more to lose. Less work means less managers needed for fewer staff. Like us, they too now find themselves used and abused by the powers that be. If they can't see that, then they deserve everything that is coming to them. Talk with us, not down at us, coz every successive government has the same level of intelligence about his job as 'call me dave' and his advisors, thinks the same about everyone in Royal Mail. 'That 'they' know whats best for this business, not us.
We need to show a united front on this. The 'us and them' is as clear as day. It's time for the CMA to declare wether they're with us or against us, because industrial strife is imminent. 'They' wanted this, not us, but I'm ready for it, are you?
