There are loads out there who've just continued to come in early and cut corners because they can, and managers turn a blind eye to get the job done. Loads just follow suit to keep up or because they feel they have to. Starting on time will lead to a lot of them taking their meal relief as well because there'd be no advantage in not doing so. Work the hours you're paid to work, simple. The games up some will think and fall into line regarding doing the job properly, safely and in line with agreed procedures. Management will have a nightmare with this. Some units only survive because of staffs good will or some would say 'stupidity', but once these practices are withdrawn, the fun will begin.

I would suggest this presents more of a problem to newbies like myself than established posties.

Until our twelve month probation period expires we just haven't got the clout to 'work to rule'.

Are there any new posties that only start on time and cut off?

Where does starting at the correct time and taking an entitled meal relief constitute 'Working to rule' :hmmmm

Great if managers enforce people starting at their start times and not before. Not so great if as a result they look more closely at performance standards, and use dodgy methods to judge them.

What I meant was doing the job the way it should be done.

Starting at the correct time, taking the meal breaks and finishing on time. If you are happy to work over due to say, excess then you should get paid for it. If you don't want to work over your time, then there should be no repercussions.

As I said, as somebody who has only been in RM a couple of months and can be sacked for pretty much anything at any time, it would be a risk standing your ground.

How many established posties in their probation period did the job as laid down? I'm talking about new posties in the last couple of years, NOT twenty years ago.

When I started the contract situation was a far cry from what it is now. You got a job, and once you passed your probationary period, you got a permanent contract. Not like now, where you get 3 or 6 months at a time, so you're right, it is a risk, and they are likely to terminate your contract if you don't play ball. It's wrong, but the managers know that they have you over a barrell. But, there will come a time, when your contract is permanent, that you can stand your ground and throw it in their face. And enjoy it while you do it. :whistle
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

I do have a permanent contract, 24 hours a week but I still have a 12 month probation, keep your nose clean period.

Who told you there was a 12 month probation period Rudolf?
Unless someone has changed it on the quiet it is and always has been 6 months.
It can be extended due to sick absence or conduct issues though.

I thought it was said on our induction day. I'll have to dig out my contract and have a look, brilliant if you're right, I''m nearly half way through it!

Thanks. :Very Happy

I've just dug out my contract and it's in paragraph 17.1

"From the commencement of your employment with Royal Mail you will subject to trial for a period of 6 months" ......

So thanks, that's brilliant, nearly half way through it.

After the trial period is completed what is the difference?
