CARMARTHEN Mayor Phil Grice has arranged a public meeting to discuss the future of the town's post office in King Street.
Post Office managers are looking to move the service from its current location.
They are hoping to find a commercial partner in the town to house a new post office under a system called franchising.
Mr Grice has called a meeting for Monday, April 8, at 7pm at St Peter's Civic Hall in Nott Square.
Mr Grice said: "It is time for us to hear what the public have to say on this matter.
"We will provide the latest information we have at this public meeting and then seek the views of the public at large.
"We will need to have strategy in our fight to keep the Carmarthen post office open, the general public will inevitably play a crucial role in this and I hope that at this meeting we will be able to form a small action group to plan the way forward.

"Eventually, the Action Group will have to meet with Post Office officials to let them know clearly of the views and the position of the people of Carmarthen concerning our town post office and of the Carmarthen town post office users.
"We have a long fight ahead of us and we must be ready to preserve and defend the future of the post office in King Street and be firm in our support the Carmarthen Post Office workers."
The Post Office has said the service will only move if it can find a suitable new location.
Managers have stressed Carmarthen will not be left without a post office.

I don't think it will be long before a national deal with a major supermarket chain is announced. They seem to take all other businesses into them. I'm sure it has been suggested before with Tesco in the frame, at least in relation to Crown Offices.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
