Tax relief for logistic drivers on subsistance - HMRC

Post by godzilla »

Does anyone know of a claim form to be sent to HMRC for logistic drivers to claim back tax relief on meal relief?

Dear Sir/Madam

I have been employed as a lorry driver since and as such my duties oblige me to take meals away from home and permanent place of work (depot).
I therefore wish to make a without prejudice claim top expenses allowance to cover daily meals.
Please consider my claim for all relevant earlier years.
My employer does not make provision or contribution towards this cost.
I understand the agreed amount is £500 per year and will retain evidence to support my further expenses.

As I am also required to launder my Royal Mail logo’d uniform could you confirm I have been in receipt of the agreed laundry allowance for Royal Mail employees.

Please send a cheque for any amount due

Yours Sincerely

Has anyone any more details on this, most of the logistic driver's are not aware of this. Do you get this even if your unpaid m/r is at another royal mail site?

I wonder... :hmmmm
I have been employed as a lorry driver since and as such my duties oblige me to take meals away from home and permanent place of work
Would this apply in a D.O. where the planned meal relief was away from the delivery office and the delivery span plus travelling was 5hrs or more?
Maybe on a rural....

The HMRC guidance for one meal rate is...

One meal rate (Five hour rate) - A rate of up to £5.00 may be paid where the worker has been away from his home/normal place of work for a period of at least five hours and has incurred a cost on a meal.

Qualifying conditions
Benchmark scale rates must only be used where all the qualifying conditions are met. The qualifying conditions are:
• the travel must be in the performance of an employee’s duties or to a temporary place of work
• the employee should be absent from his normal place of work or home for a continuous period in excess of five hours or ten hours
• the employee should have incurred a cost on a meal (food and drink) after starting the journey

What I think you are looking at is eim05231 but this has to be agreed with your employer and I don't think you have a lot of hope on that.

Has anyone spoken to the CPU about this, surely all Network drivers are entitled to this as we are the only staff with Unpaid meal breaks

All logistic drivers can claim this as I have had a couple of cheques back last one £220 and new tax code of 1080l and this is permanent. It just takes time dealing with hmrc but in the long run you can be £250 better off a year..
