Royal Mail Deliver on Withernsea Post-Box Promise

Local residents in Withernsea should finally see a new post-box installed on South Cliff Road after the intervention of Beverley and Holderness MP, Graham Stuart.

Graham was contacted by Mrs Margaret Read who has led the campaign to get Royal Mail to reinstate the post-box on South Cliff Road. Last July Royal Mail told Mrs Read that they had listened to her argument and would be putting back the box they had previously removed. Until now, however, they have failed to deliver on that promise.

Mrs Read said, "I was fed up with Royal Mail's lack of action and so went to see Graham to find out what he could do to help. I took with me a petition signed by about two hundred people from the town who also want to see the post- box put back on South Cliff Road. It's a long walk to the next one and there are a lot of pensioner bungalows around the Kirkfield Road area. The elderly and disabled, in particular, would like to see the post-box back. I even know of one disabled lady who has to take a taxi to post her letters at the moment."

Graham went on to say, "Mrs Read is an example to us all. She refused to put up with the situation which was causing so much difficulty to residents - particularly the disabled - and galvanised the local community to sign her petition and insist on action. I'm pleased to have helped by intervening with Royal Mail and can give the good news that it has promised to install the new letter box on South Cliff Road by no later than 9 April."
