Our section has 3 driving duties, and 6 walks.
Altogether there are about 100 walks.
Nearly the whole office are going to start at 5am
The phgs are saying it is unofficial action.
What do i say monday, when i have 8 boxes of mail and its 8am?
It will take nearly 2 hrs to throw that out,
thats 9am, prep up take over a hour, have my 20 min break, so it will be about 10.40 when i start, and it will take me 3 and a half hours to 4 depending on customers, and cups of tea!!!
how to i go about telling my line manager i just want to work to time?

If you do decide to follow the Union and "Do the Job Properly" and you will be unable to complete your round, remember that under the current law of the land Management cannot force you to complete your round on overtime. So make sure that you tell your immediate manager that you will be unable to complete the round and you do not wish to work over your time. But make sure you have a witness in case they try something on. Management may try the following tactics to get you to complete, however, in the end they cannot force you to work over your hours.

Royal Mail have asked you to be flexible. (They may have asked but you don't have to be)

I have not got anyone to cover it. (Sorry that's their problem not yours - they after all agreed to the cutbacks and savings in all offices)

They may offer you more overtime than you will actually work. (Again whether you accept or not is up to the individual but make sure you have witnesses to the offer)

They may tell you that you can't cut off and that you will be done for delay of mail. (On this one ask for a meeting with the Union Rep and advise him of what your manager said. If you do not have a union rep then either make as if to call the Area rep or actually call him whilst the manager is there and advise him of what has happened. Get him to speak to the manager on your behalf).

Remember overtime is voluntary even if you have signed the overtime waiver under the working time regulations, and Royal Mail cannot force you to work overtime, it is your choice.

Can I also add to this very good advice - diarise everything. carry your union diary with you. make sure you jot down the time etc when you do this and how you felt at the response - if a case is made and you go to IT with it it will give a picture to "hurt feelings".

Talking to a few members this morning, I found that some of them are thinking about it but still the majority will be using cars,over-weight bags, etc...Still, give it time.

Did my own little blog topic last night: What Liberalisation Really Means

Went into the work this morning, 4.45am, first thing i did was to make myself a cup of coffee.Some people were throwing their walks outs, but 90% didnt touch a letter.The untouchable on our section, came in early, sorted the met, and then threw his walk out..........
later on, on the ips he put a tray of walk sorted(not his) under his ips frame and didnt tell the person that the tray was there.
so when we come off the sorting at 6.30 the person found it and took it to his fitting.hour later the person noticed untouchable's met bundle was in there. so he gave untouchable the met bundle(he had already thrown out).
Most of the office had drop bags
most had timed bags
and most had a break before we went out.
Untouchable didnt and went out with a coffin full of bags.
I noticed at 8.45 when i was putting the bag in my car, he went out, clutching a few letters.
Goes down to the missort frame, he sorted threw the letters for his own but didnt bother sorting the rest of the mail in to walks .
Did finish 10 mins early, but mondays are now the tuesday for being light.
Tomorrow will be soooooooooo heavy!

in my office it started today but for two or three twa** all in the vans loads of cut off's tried to tell us not many
were in the vans a bit of a lie from the dim but they had to hire vans and bring in bods to run bags and people out

bit suprised at the outcome but just what did they expect.

spiderwoods: dont be put off by management lies you are not the only one doing it Keep strong and more will follow. As for cars we were told never again will you be allowed to use them, bring it on let them worry about how you get out to your delivery. Our officehas had to hire in the region of 40 vans and they still cant get it right. Keep your chin up and those around you good luck.

My office has been doing it for over a week now and not cleared any day!!!!!!I am the rep and have been threatened daily by managers of inciting unoffical action intimdation ect i said to the manager put up or shut up, they also said we where the only office in the area but its now spreading we are in a fight to the finish we must keep strong and we can win
