lapsing absorbtion or flex whatever you call it

Absorption and lapsing are the same thing. Flexing is different.
Absorbtion / lapsing must be done if you have time within your duty.
Flexing is a voluntary agreement to work up to thirty mins more once a week on the understanding that you will receive that time back that same week. If you not want to you don't have to.

well flex then we have been told we gota take it out every day apart from sat

so what is the diffrence then because i dont think we should have to take flex unpaid overtime springs to mind

If you have the time to do it within your working day without going over, take the extra.
If you don't have the time, don't take it. Be prepared for the knackers to start trying to baffle you with bullshit in an attempt to make you take it. Also be prepared to face their wrath if you finish early on the days you refuse to lapse.

Lapsing/absorbing is taking a part of another duty and delivering it within your paid hours, if you don't have the time then you don't do it otherwise you have to do it.

Flexing (as said) is different, it's about asking you to work an extra 30 minutes in exceptional circumstances which has to be paid back by the Saturday (personally I would say no because the managers will just say you can start 30 minutes later).

well they call this flex in our office we take a bit of a walk id say 63 drops which is what i teake and we have been informed we have to take it out woth us now what my issue is taking it out when i know i cant complete it
as they could have ya for wilfull delay saying you could of done it blah blah u know how it goes traffic was this blah blah

we call this flex in this part of midlands

If you can't complete your walk and the lapsing within your hours and have no wish to work over, tell them and let them decide how much to take off you. Get your rep involved if they start bullshitting you with traffic figures or threatening you with conduct code etc. And make sure you don't finish your walk early. These tossers deserve a good shoeing for their antics, sadly the only legal recourse is to stick to the rules.

I have always taken the view that ...

if you 'lapse' a duty it remains intact albeit delivered in equal (

) sections across the delivery office where there is time in your normal delivery day ...

if you 'absorb' that duty it disappears altogether and the previously lapsed sections are either permanently attached to other deliveries within the office or you have a table-top revision to spread the absorbed duty(ies) ...

you 'flex' 30 minutes where anomalies outside of the delivery office influence occur and get those 30 minutes back in the same week

if we are collapsing a walk in our office and it is a heavy day our gaffer will tell us we still have to take the extra but if anyone doesn't want to go over they can leave a bit of their own walk in! they know then you have to still take it at some point.

Why?
The mail will have to be delivered that day. If you don't have time within your contracted hours, then somebody else will have to do it.
Otherwise it has to be declared as a failure - in which case the DSM will almost certainly instruct your DOM/lino to go out and do it themselves.

Like today i didnt get out of office till ten and they said u dont have to take ya absorption out i also said i dont think i can complete then dim said whos done this walk and some other manager said 3 hours and he said you got plenty of time i said i tell ya what give me a greivence form and a bullyhing and harrasment form cos your intimmidating me but i worked till my time and just managed to get it done
