Hmm. Not actually going out and doing the graft gets you a big bonus.
Going out and doing the graft gets you NO bonus.
Perhaps we should just stop delivering mail, stay in the office all day drinking tea/coffee and watch the bonuses come rolling in. Hard work clearly does you no favours in Royal Mail...

NO THEY DON'T

Its getting frustrating repeating this so often but here goes.

MCs get their own Supplement - £8

No one gets paid for D2Ds any more.

No but I can't see us keeping it as paid without a fight over the next few years.

It may be frustrating to repeat your take on the arangement, but to delivery workers who actually deliver the unlimited numbers of D2D's it's a CLEAR.
The D2D agreement SHAFTED the workers who are doing the actual work.

( As I understand it D2D money + Night Duty Allowance money was combined and redistibuted between DO's + MC's workers - money IS given to those who NEVER TOUCH A D2D EVER ! - )

So on the weeks when a "shafted" delivery worker gets fewer (or no) D2D, should they give some of the money back?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

You must be joking right.....LOL, I can't remember the last time that we have had no D2D's. I had 5 last week , 6 the week before....

If D2D's wasn't such an issue , then why do you think it comes up again and again and again ?

I agree on your sentiment about the agreement we were shafted - however if we keep want to change the agreement (which is unlikely) then we have to argue with facts rather than feelings, and the stuff I posted above is not "my take" on the agreement - its the facts that people need to be aware of. What sounds worse we get paid nothing for D2Ds or we get £20 (pro rata).

As for MCs not touching D2Ds, some must otherwise they wouldn't get from the bundling centres to us in the DOs.

Is the Delivery Supplement solution to D2Ds fair - not in a million years and I have never changed my position on that, but I think replaying the argument that the supplement is a payment for doing D2Ds weakens any chance of changing the system because its wrong. However, its the Union I blame for not explaining it to the membership, not the members themselves.

I suppose the CMA must be congratulated for negotiating such a lucrative scheme for it's members based on measurable targets and it makes you wonder why the CWU could not do the same for it's members. I have no qualms about bonuses provided that they are fair and provide an incentive (ie not merely payment schemes) ... there are countless managers who have no influence on the results upon which their bonuses are based and this is clearly an area where the scheme falls down. It has been known for targets to be class as achieved when they have not been and in these instances mitigating circumstances have been sited, these decisions have been questionable and again pose the question as to whether the MBS is a true bonus scheme. Managers generally expect a decent bonus after periods of industrial action and when logic says the reverse should actually occur the 'mitigating circumstances' raise their heads again.

The D2D issue does get people riled, but thinking about it, i dont think it was as terrible as people make out. Regardless of how many i get i still get the £20. I probably average 3 a week. The good bit is that i still get the supplement when im not delivering them. So as i work one in six thats 8 weeks for starters, plus my six weeks holiday plus any sick leave. RM COULD have offered sweet FA with them being included in workload. Sure, given the option i would have kept the per item payment, but while its certainly not "the deal of the century" it could have been worse.

It is worse for part timers, they do the same as full timers but get paid less,in fact on p/l duties they are usually the walkers so they actually deliver more for less and that ain't fair is it.

Perhaps you are advocating different pay rates for the different parts of the working day. Sorting at £8:30 Prepping at £7.50. Delivering Letters £9.35 Delivering Large packets £8.95. Driving at £9.10 - boy that would be messy.

Or perhaps you are advocating piece work - not a good idea if you accept the argument over declining volumes. Would be an open door for 8 hour deliveries or more.

Or perhaps piece work based on the different sizes.

Its not perfect but being paid the same hourly rate whatever the amount of hours you do is the fairest, but I am more than willing to listen to suggestions, as long as pay levels remain the same if not better for all.

Oh and when we get P&L me as a FT on 39 hours will be the walker of our pairing.

Communication and cash or lack of both were the biggest problem with the D2D issue, the union spent far too much time "spinning" the members and not enough time educating them.
£20 was not enough especially for members who were already receiving £12 ESA.
The pro-rata issue for part-timers is only divisive if you still think the supplement is connected to D2D...which it isn't.

My personal opinion is it should have gone into basic pay,I know RM didn't want that but they wanted D2D into workload and the scare stories about them just putting it in and paying us nothing were just that scare stories.
There is no way on earth they would have tried that without agreement because they know we would have walked.
The negotiators should have negotiated harder...for more money and into basic...end of story.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
