CWU 'shock' at reported rise in Royal Mail managers' bonuses

CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward said today that postal workers would be "shocked" at reports that management bonuses have risen by more than 60 per cent.
This morning's Daily Telegraph reported that Royal Mail had paid managers an average £1,674 each in bonuses in 2010/2011, but that this figure had increased to an average £2,717 in 2011/2012.
Telegraph journalist Christopher Hope explained that the figures were "obtained using Freedom of information laws" and added that this represented a "62 per cent increase in bonuses."
At the very top of the company, chief executive Moya Greene is reported as having been "given a £371,000 bonus, resulting in a total salary to £1.1 million."
Reacting to the revelations, Dave Ward said: "ordinary postwomen and postmen would be shocked at the scale of these bonuses, which are equal to almost two-and-a-half months take-home pay for a delivery worker.
"Postal workers' pay has increased by 3.5 per cent in the last year - a fraction of the 60 per cent increase in executive bonuses - and Royal Mail staff are increasingly being asked to do more work for less reward," he added.
"However, we fear for what may happen if Royal Mail is privatised, as excessive executive pay and bonuses and pay inequality is far worse in the private sector.
"If this is what is happening in the move to a private ownership model, things could get far worse under privatisation," Dave warned.

No it was £200 last year and it will be £200 in 2013. The difference was they bunged us half back in June 2012 when they announced the increase. (and it was a sop anyway for the CS fiasco)db wrote:Hasn't our Xmas bonus gone up 100% for this year?

If you calculate that the final valuation for the colleagueshares should have been around £1,400 in 14 years time our Xmas bonus will have gone up 100%

haunted tupperware (cheers F.Boyle) AKA Moya Greene bags another 130 grand to go with the 170 grand she got for relocating from Canada...and in this age of austerity our shocked leader Dave Ward (jesus 130000!thats nearly as much we claimed in backdated holiday money Billy!) thought it was a smashing idea to invite this selfless charming individual to CWU conference..

I would imagine the bonuses for the lesser manages was paid out of the monies that should have been paid out as ColleagueShares to the postie.
I also, unfortunately, imagine the resulting aren't-we-clever? smirk on the bosses' faces.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
