Sorry to bump my own topic but I really need some info regarding the security of these things. Can they be left out of site and if so for how long?

I just use mine like a mobile pouch box.Leave it out of sight for around 20 mins. max. I am doing this with the full permission and instruction of our governor(he is not bad at all and listening to people on here he must be one of the best) :Applause

I applied 3 weeks ago to use a HCT on my delivery. DOM said a risk assessment would have to be done but not to hope for too much as my round consists of 55 tenements (3 ups) and the HCT must be kept in sight at all times, even if it's locked up. When i pointed out that they use a smaller trolley on front door rounds in our office, that have had 2nd wallet boxes broken into on more than 30 occasions, his reply was that at least the postman can still see his trolley at the garden gate from the front door of the house he's delivering at.

antcpfc, see if you can get your DOM to show you something in print that shows that you are allowed to have your HCT out of sight. I would love to have something i could show my DOM, that would allow me the use of an HCT

Well some interesting stuff going on about HCT's!!
I've been having an injury claim going on for sometime and during that time I was told by the Tonbridge CWU that HCT's were not to be used on hills - which is a contradiction to the leaflet, also that they should not be pushed for one mile before you start delivering they should be transported out. I was also told recently that the HCT should be padlocked to say a lamp post or similar if left unattended. The only maximum weight I knew was 105kg which made the leaflet interesting again - thanks!!
I like them though as you can put all your wet weather gear in (if there's space!!) and they actually keep the rain out unlike the old ones so if it really rains hard you can leap inside and keep dry!! :Very Happy

The new ones have a sheet of aluminium lining inside and cannot be slashed with a stanley knife so you are OK to chain it up while you have your break.
