DHL Express has opened a new service centre in Oxford, to manage an increase in exporting volumes in the area.

Demonstrative of DHL’s growth in the UK, the business is investing £1.5m into the 35,144 sq ft site in order to manage the region’s growing demand for export and import express carriage.

Phil Couchman, CEO of DHL Express UK & Ireland, opened the site alongside local MP Ed Vaizey, who attended to get an insight into the business not only as an employer in his constituency but also to see how one of the world’s leading international express delivery companies is facilitating the British import and export market.

Ed Vaizey commented: “I was delighted to attend the opening of the new DHL Oxford service centre. DHL offers an outstanding global connection, and the new centre will help support international trade, whilst benefiting local jobs and the economy. This is great news for local residents and customers, as they can benefit from the service centre through services such as the drop-off and collection of overseas deliveries.”

Phil Couchman commented: “This strategic investment in the Oxford area is reflective of the strength of our growing logistics network in the UK. Oxford has seen a significant increase in shipments over the last few years, due to the nature of the businesses in the area. Global export markets should be the next frontier for all enterprises producing great British products, and through this service centre we can help facilitate growth for these businesses.”

The new centre offers international services and provides the core DHL service centre offerings of drop-off and collection of goods for delivery overseas. It has the most efficient operational processes and equipment, and is also equipped with the latest technology and up-to-date mechanical handling equipment.
