This is nothing new, more than 12 years ago we had a nurse who would come to evaluate the health of postmen/women if they wanted to. I took it and was told my blood pressure was high, should stop smoking, lose weight and take more exercise, which despite popular belief is not actually covered by a walking duty. Needless to say you don't really pay too much attention however I probably should have heeded the advice as I ended up having a stroke and diabetes and thyroid problem.................so if nothing else it doesn't cost anything, is done in works time and could be beneficial.

I get regularly tested by my GP and will take what he says to me more seriously than an overweight skiving DOM taking the piss out of everyone having the test

The blood pressure results are worse than useless,to get a proper blood pressure reading you should rest for 5 minutes first, and then take the readings in both arms, their are 2 settings that Tanita use to calculate your body composition and metabolism,if you are an athletic person with a history of exercise and with a resting heartbeat of less than 60 you should be using the correct setting on the scale, the Royal mail person that was taking my readings hadn't a clue about that and according to them I was something like 18kg overweight, unless it is done by a trained medical person it can do more harm than good.

I didn't say dehydration cannot be cured.
The point with dehydration is to avoid it in the first place.
To do that you need to drink a little continuously.
But people don't and consequently get dehydrated.
And once you are suffering from dehydration at the end of your duty, you don't make the right decisions so instead of having half a grapefruit and a tofu and butterbean pasty washed down with a glass of carrot juice, you reach for a Mars bar, 2 packets of Doritos and a bottle of Lucozade (approx 900 calories) because that is what your body is craving.
its comes down to discipline,we all crave. you make it seem as if we cannot avoid what we eat! its up to us what we put in our mouths, alot of posties are really fat and unhealthy & do not help themselves with the job, I believe all posties should be in some kind of decent physical shape as the job is getting more strenuous. the days of being fat & being a postman are numbered.

I think there's a job going in ATOS for you, maybe the job shouldn't be as bad instead of attacking the posties with 'glandular' problems :nervous

i just have an opinion thats all, most of the moaning in my DO comes from members who are overweight & unfit, the jobs to hard,my knees hurt, my hips hurt, my ankles hurt, my back hurts........ if you were overweight & went to the doctors with all those pains what do you think a doctor would advise you to do???? lose weight and get fit maybe?? overweight people are the last to admit there problems are anything to do with their weight unfortunately. :cuppa

My post was in jest, hence the smiley at the end and the use of the word glandular, you really need to stop attacking people because of your own failures, you may get hurt but because it's you and you're not overweight then it's the job but if it's a fatty then it's their fault because they're fat??
Still, it's nice to be sort of perfect like you (except for the dodgy knees, hips, ankles and back).

its a fact fat people are more fun. in our office at least 80% are to fat drink to much and moan about the work. we socialise together, there is always some fat bloke having a good laugh and the work still gets done even by the old fat blokes. the other 20% are boring. i often wonder if they envy us

i attacked nobody,my points were in general.i never said anything about people getting hurt or whos fault it was to get hurt. read the posts properly then make a comment, its silly to asume things. most doctors would agree with me & im a very fit person who trains with personal trainers & fully understand what carrying extra weight around does to your joints & bones overtime especially in a job like ours, its a recipe for disaster.

Oh, listen to me, I'm all super fit and get to work out with personal trainers and all, I'm so much better than everybody else out there and they should just fall and worship at my highly toned feet. :nervous

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
