That's a very good point.bennny7 wrote:union at local level must know what is going on do they turn a blind eye so they dont rock the boat or are they scared as well
Are these members even approaching their local rep for assistance?
If not,why not?
If they are...are the local reps approaching their branch for assistance?
If not,why not?
If we're honest this bullying and harassment survey asks as many questions of the union structure as it does of management behaviour.
Perhaps that's the reason there appears to be a lack of appetite to turn what is a very important issue for members in delivery into a full scale investigation.
Perhaps neither side wants to open up Pandora's Box but i think it's too late for that, trying to sweep this under the carpet now after so many members have read and responded to the letters and communication on bullying in delivery would leave the union in a ridiculous position.
Bob Gibson in particular has to see this through to the (bitter) end otherwise anything he says from now on would just be ridiculed by most of the members....and i don't think a Joint Statement will cut much ice.

When i was bullied by a Rep very discreetly and mentally, management don't wanna know. There is no-one in our business that will help. Management are afraid of the Union.

Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Re: Some stats from the bullying survey..
Sooner or later the union is going to be recognised for what it has turned into - a paper tiger - without teeth or substance.............a Joint Statement - how f*cking banal is that. When is the union going to actually DO something other than chatter - does Gibson actually believe a "Joint Statement" is going to change the situation by one iota............if so it's time he sheathed his pen and give somebody who actually has a pair a chance. Royal Mail will joint statement til the cows come home but actually institute change................not a chance. All those who thought that BT2010 was "the deal of the century" must surely be hanging their heads in shame at the way it has transpired into nothing short of a bullying charter.

Re: Some stats from the bullying survey..
Royal Mail are aware of their mangers' bullying and harassment of OPGs as well as other managers of that there is no doubt. Their failure to act even when the evidence is overwhelming means at the least they are turning a blind eye and at the worst actively condoning this type of behaviour.
No amount of surveys will force the business to act against a form of behaviour many senior mangers are themselves guilty of as the alternative, motivating staff using positive methods, are beyond their capability. In manufacturing industry and in other places I have worked I have never seen anything like it...

Re: Some stats from the bullying survey..
So guys Basically what everyone is saying is that the Union know about the bullying and Management know about the bullying Big Dave and Billy know Moya knows!!! So if no one is doing it then Why dont we Do something about it??????? There is enough of us on this forum alone I have written Emails to Moya and Big Dave and Billy about the bullying in our Office and i have stated that there will be a Manager hurt one day or Postal Worker commit Suicide and then something will be done but again if everyone knows and no one is doing anything about it then we should any suggestions?? and guys please serious lol Violence is not the answer even though most men and wowam the lengh and breadth of the country must think it most days! I love in Royal Mail Management Can turn the words and rules to suit themselves!!Maybe an organised rally or friendly protest arranged to peacefully show that we are no longer wanting to stand to there bullying..

Re: Some stats from the bullying survey..
I don't think this can be resolved "in house" neither do i think it should be trivialised by using it as a bargaining chip in future negotiations.
This is a stand alone issue that needs to be resolved outside the usual "favour for a favour" relationship between union and employer.
There should be no compromise...bullying,intimidation and harassment are endemic, systematic and fully institutionalised in the Royal Mail management structure.
If the union has evidence of unlawful practices such as enforced overtime and unlawful deduction of wages, not to mention unwarranted threats to member's job security and pay surely they have a moral obligation to take that evidence outside the employer/union relationship and explore any and all legal recourse for our members.
Since Moya's background is legal perhaps that's the only language she understands.

Re: Some stats from the bullying survey..
The members pay their subs and expect to be protected by the union they employ to protect their rights, terms and conditions of employment but when that doesn't happen, then where can they take their dispute. It would appear that the union are prepared to discuss it but of course that isn't a solution to the problem and I'm personally at a loss to render an opinion as to who would take up the problem either with RM or indeed the union that is ignoring the problem or at least trivialising it.

Re: Some stats from the bullying survey..
I agree wholeheartedly with the last three posts in that something pro-active needs to be done by the employees and that there is not an 'in house' solution.
Publicity is one way of drawing peoples' attention to the issue and RM cannot abide anything that sullies their image, particularly when they are touting themselves ready for privatisation and the fact fact that B&H goes directly against their WCM philosophy of 'Corporate Social Responsibility'. Just use the facts with the survey results being excellent data to use.
Secondly I would try and find an independent outside organisation that deals with this kind of problem and try and get some involvement from them or at least glean some advice.
Lastly there needs to be zero tolerance from RM on this issue with strict sanctions against those found guilty but to facilitate this all employees who are being treated in this manner need to report it using RM procedures and keep a full audit trail of such.
