holiday year end date

I have been informed by Angard staffing that the holiday year ends on March 9th.
I am not aware this is common knowledge so for those Angardees not informed
it is usually the case that all leave must be taken within the holiday year unless
agreed otherwise.

The last day for your holiday to be requested for the Holiday year is the 1st March 2013 at noon.

Did they say if we can have some transferred to "next year" as I am having a holiday in May and it would be useful to have some remaining for that?

Nope you lose it, you're best off booking it over the next month on your usual days off...you have to request it via email

No verging we did not discuss the issue of carrying holiday over to the next year. i was making a general point that some firms allow you to do this in certain circumstances.

I wonder what happens to any holiday accrued on the week ending March 8th?

They cannot give a sensible reply to any questions about that or what happens to the week ending 1st March.

We have to book all holidays by noon on the 1st of March to be paid on the 8th March.

Neither we nor they will know by then what we will work for the week ending 1st March and the 8th of March. They find out what we work on the following Monday (4th March and 11th March) but they are saying we have to book them or lose them. They are "inputting" the holiday request over the weekend of the 1st to 3rd March before they get our timesheets on the 4th March or 11th March. Asking how we claim holiday for week ending 1st and 8th the Angard reply appears to be "guess" what you will work and claim it (from Northampton and the query centre - not payroll). Problem is will payroll authorise payment when we havent yet accrued holiday and may have "guessed" incorrectly - what will they do if we ask for more than we are entitled to.

A further thought is should we work next week and the week after if we are not going to get our holiday pay.

Another ill thought out system by Angard which is going to be impossible to sort out unless they actually spend time thinking about things quickly.

A common sense approach would have been to declare that holiday accrued by March 1st (ideally Feb 22nd) must be taken by March 8th/ordered by March 1st -and the rest carried over,paid in wages, OR pay us 112.07% of the hourly rate for W/E March 8th.

Common sense is not one of their strong points. Things would be so much simpler if it was.

I agree the cut-off for accrual should be 22nd February and need to be requested on the 1st to be paid on the 8th but hey ho it isnt that.

Got told yesterday how this holiday thing works finally.
Essentially your current holiday hours have to be used by March 1st otherwise you lose them all. However you don't start accruing for the new year until the 8th - so that week you need to claim any hours you might earn (so for me that's four hours) otherwise you lose them.

recently I ve worked between 5 hours per week and 24.5 hours per week (without much notice) so it''ll be a complete stab in the dark guessing what I'll work W/E 8th March

Exactly the problem.

We do not know what we will work on the 1st March - possibly until after the noon deadline for claiming and we certainly will have no idea what we will work for the week of the 8th until probably the Monday of that week or even each day that week. Even Angard and MC do not necessarily know what we will work each day until the day. Bear in mind payroll/holiday will not know what we work until the 4th March and the 11 March - when they get the hours from the RM for each of the weeks. Will they actually pay us holiday when we havent accrued it? What happens if I claim holiday I dont earn? They have not answered these question or cant.

This is a farce and should never be working this way.

Another way for Angard to save money by not paying us our holiday for the weeks of the 1st and the 8th maybe!?

No new paid holiday requests should be raised to Angard for period Friday
1st March to 28 March as we will be preparing the payment of your total
outstanding holiday accruals during this period. All outstanding holiday
will be paid in full to you on Thuesday 28th March which will show on your
payslip.

All raised and unpaid claims from 25th February will be paid on 28 March.
This was an instruction from Royal Mail directly.

It is good news and the only way they should have ever been doing it.

Commnication is still one of their main issues. Even up to yesterday I was being told I still had to book it. I have not received the same e-mail from payroll but received some sketchy details and a hint to look at the Angard website. Why cant they just send a global e-mail/letter to everyone so all casuals are aware of this

I've turned shifts down because I suddenly had to take 185 hours of holiday within a few weeks.

Now it turns out that I didn't have to.

Yea got the email as well

Two weeks after being told to use up all my holiday time (would have quite enjoyed some time off, but got told so late I had no choice but to just claim it)
Then last week got told I had to book time off over the week - which I know can't claim for, so that lightens my paypacket next week.
