Working outdoors , it's driven me almost potty being stuck inside the office when on light duties.

What I like best about being a Postie

Post by mdtomuk »

Before the big changes 3 years ago (Rounds 25/30% longer for 14.6% pay rise -durrrr!) I would have said EVERYTHING was great about being a Postie. But now I voted 'Other' - The ONLY thing good are the brilliant people I work with, even the the miserable sods at my place are great - I love em all, and we stand metaphoricaly (?) shoulder to shoulder in the face of all the awful crap that is forever being shovelled all over us.

It was hard to select just one.

I like working outdoors and getting to know people. One of the reasons why I hate being reserve and not having a daily route.

My colleagues (in both offices I've worked out) have always amused me.

The best part about it used to be the hours, but then we were all lied to in our office and had the start times put back from 05.00 to 06.30. Now I get no end of people telling me "You're late!" or asking if I can let them have their mail as they've "got to get to work and I'm waiting for a letter". Then we're all out for longer walking about at the hottest part of the day. The customers aren't happy as they're mostly out now and gone before I can get there with SD'd, RD's, packets etc. Don't believe the propaganda in the latest 'Courier'. The lad who was quoted as saying how great it is doesn't work Saturday's these days. Until a couple of years ago, he played non-league football for TNS and Rhyl and admits he wouldn't have liked the later starts if he was still working on Saturdays. There will be a film out soon. They've chosen a few local drunks who can't get out of bed and unpricipled brown noses to be interviewed for it. Managers did the choosing and no one with a different view got a look in.
