CWU position - Bank hours to prevent this happening

RESULT - RM got what they wanted & members will get shafted.

No Royal Mail's position was 20 mins later on a Monday and 40 mins later on a Saturday. Did they get that ? In fact Royal Mail's original position was no one got a 39 hour working week until the revision.

The union wanted banking but not everyone wanting this option some wanted and have not got 35 mins off the finishing time on a Monday and Tuesday which over 6 weeks balance out in hours terms and now will not be absorbing on these days and therefore will be doing less work as a result of the 39 hour week.

There are plenty of options if you use your imagination.

Banking would probably have meant more leave but those who were not on leave would have been absorbing the duties of those on leave working even harder.

If you cannot do the deal that'd right pass it up.

Correct me if I am wrong if you put the suggested 12 mins reduction of the working day at the front of your working day your BSI would jump significantly(managers preference) but if you put the 12 mins on the back of the day there would be absolutely no change in BSI for that day??? come to your own conclusions :wave :wave

Not if the outdoor workload remained the same which it has to outside a revision.
As dingo pointed out you would on paper have to leave the office 12 minutes earlier to complete X amount of outdoor work and the indoor workload would then be squeezed having exactly the same effect on EP as starting 12 mins later.

Surely the calculation for adopting a DMR would over-ride any pre-DMR calculation? Both indoor and outdoor work would come into the fray for a DMR, rather than just a squeeze on indoor workload because the outdoor workload cannot be affected pre-DMR.

On current performance at my DO 12 minutes per day is insignificant against the early finishes they enjoy at present. I know, I know, they bury their heads in the sand rather than see the reality facing them and will undoubtedly blame the CWU when the Grim Reaper visits our DO!

Now the CWUs postion is that we believe the hour should be banked each week until they introduce the revison. It worked in the mail centres and they had the choice of either SA or annual leave on what hours were banked.
One rule for mail centres, another for delivery

No you have been mis informed as of yesterday and talks will continue next week , Royal Mail at this moment do not want to go down the road of banking an hour and an hours overtime was never on the table. Royal Mail have backed away from 20 mins later onMonday and 40 mins later on Tuesday. Now they are saying 3 options 12 mins later start per day pro rata for those who work less than 5 days , 12 mins of the finishing time per day pro rata form attendances less than 5 days , and 6 mins off the start time and 6 mins off the finishing time pro rata for attendance less than 5 days.
So between the 19th and 25th the CWU negotiators got NO consessions from RM

The facts speak for themselfs, RM got what they wanted because the CWU didn't want to pick a fight over this issue, prefering to side with RM than stand up for their original position that banking hours was the correct solution to the 39 hour week problem. Cutting time from the working day instead will lead to members absorbing workload, just as RM wanted.

RM has got exactly what they wanted ! people comming in early, working for free to make up the 12min cut in their duty time ( with no cut in duty workload )

haven't read all the thread so apologies but what exactly is the problem with working 39 hours if that is what they have changed your contract to?

You've had a revision,many others haven't,there is the problem.
Would be best to read the thread tbh.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The baseline for indoor performance for revision planning is current performance(based on an average of the last 12 weeks) plus any jointly agreed scope for improvement.
The higher your EP going into a revision the higher it is coming out.

My DO is at 120% BSI and our revision is due in the next two/three months.

I fear this might be a problem

Thanks for that, Fishtank .. I have not been involved much with IWT recently (version 6 for me) or even what comprises an Indoor Working Method etc. Difficult to get directly involved as a H&S Rep but I will see if I can blag some ''release time'' to read-up on the documentation etc in case of any H&S aspects. :whistle

I have spoken to the DOM about going through IWT at some point in the very near future - all I get in return is the blank look, the twitch returns, the watery eyes and bottom lip begins to wobble :left:
