25th January 2013

Royal Mail has launched an exciting new fundraising drive as part of their Charity of the Year programme which could bag you and up to two friends or family members a ticket to cheer on your favourite team at approximately 70 Championship, League 1 and League 2 football matches taking place across the UK.

In return for your complimentary match ticket, Royal Mail is asking that you volunteer to undertake a bucket collection for a couple of hours prior to the start of the game to raise funds for the company's Charity of the Year, Prostate Cancer UK. Royal Mail will also cover your travel costs to and from the ground up to £10 plus a £5 refreshment allowance and will match, penny for penny, pound for pound, whatever you collect in your bucket on the day.

Chosen last year by Royal Mail workers in a vote for the company's Charity of the Year, Prostate Cancer UK campaigns to raise awareness of male cancers and funds research into treatment and prevention initiatives. The target is to raise £2 million between now and mid-2014, which will help fund up to 50 specialist prostate cancer nurses, through a series of fundraising initiatives and events, which will be match-funded by Royal Mail.

Dave Ward, deputy general secretary for postal, commented: "Some 40,000 UK men are diagnosed with Prostate Cancer every year, and every hour one man in the UK dies from it. Prostate Cancer UK continue to fight hard to bring those shocking figures down and many of our members have actively supported these efforts. This is a great opportunity for our members to get involved in the company's fund-raising initiative and make a difference to the lives of men and their families affected by prostate cancer."

If you are interested in this unique volunteering opportunity you better act fast. There are only about 700 of these spots up for grabs which are available exclusively to Royal Mail employees up to 31 January. After this date, these opportunities will be made available to the general public.
