I haven't no. I was told that I would be put on a 4 or 6 man shortlist to return. As they didn't tell me what was happening on my last shift I really do hope to get a phonecall at some point. Reapplying for Job Seekers, the whole process, and being treated like a child with threats is not what I want to be doing whilst seeking work.

I hope you are right.

I received a text message asking me if I would like to work such and such a date from Reed/Angard Staffing. I decided to phone Angard on the 0845 official number. He said it was strange that I had been sent the messages in advance of any employment. He said I should ignore the text messages, but then phoned me back like 5 minutes later and said that his manager said that I am able to start as soon as possible. They are in the middle of sending new contracts out, and anybody who has been transferred from a casual to Angard should receive one soon.

I'm waiting for the contract myself, but if I do get another text before I receive that document I'll be starting. The dole is depressing me already. So much bloody pressure with their new Universal crap and 10 jobs per week. It was hard enough applying for 10 - 12 do able jobs without experience/skills/training etc when it was just 6 per fortnight.

Thanks for the info rafiki. Just to clear things up, I was asked by my line manager if I was interested in working after my contract was ended. Said it wasn't guaranteed but he seemed pretty keen to keep me on. Still not heard anything back and I finished up on Christmas Eve. If I receive a call will it be through Angard or part time as Royal Mail staff. Based in Edinburgh.

I think it will be Angard.

I myself was a Christmas Casual and was pulled aside by a line manager, there were no mention of Angard in the conversation so I was looking forward to be given an extended or part time contract with The Royal Mail as that's what a lot of the part time permanents did to get into the company. Casual, call back, do any hours/shifts they offer and then get in. I however seem to have been transferred to Angard. I got another text after the message I wrote on here today and now I'm due in to work tomorrow night, Monday 4 hours, Tuesday 4 hours and Wednesday 4 hours as he asked me if I wanted more shifts as they are available.

To all Angards. Is it best I just sign off the Job Seekers Allowance? All I'm worried about is if the hours dry up for weeks at a time and I'm receiving no income.

Your contract with Angard is a zero hours contract and as such you have no hours guaranteed.

Sometimes you will get a few hours per week; sometimes you will get around 20 hours a week; sometimes you might get more; sometimes you may get nothing for the week or a few weeks. It really is very hit and miss for most people.

Me too, didn't even know Angard were working at our office as no one ever mentioned them and the only sign in sheets I seen were for RM direct casuals or Manpower. When the manager approached me before Xmas he never mentioned anything about an agency either

Not what I wanted but it will do for now.

If you take the odd shift you can still sign on to keep your claim open (the amount paid will be adjusted down, to zero if applicable) but it get pretty complicated, a lot of room for cock-ups.

Eligibility
To qualify for Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) you must:

work on average less than 16 hours a week
normally be aged 18 or over but below State Pension age - there are some exceptions for 16 to 17 year olds
not be in full-time education
live in England, Scotland or Wales

However, taking the odd shift may mean you are offered more shifts in advance,, or a whole week. At our site there were whole weeks being offered around last Easter, but again "who knows?"this year.

I got called back, BUT...

I was hoping to get a job - as, I presume, most Xmas casuals were - so have gone in every time I've been asked, worked my b******s off every shift, even done three 14-hour shifts in a row...and yesterday I receive an email from Angard tellng me that I will now be contracted to them.

And my reward? A REDUCTION from the already-low hourly rate to the minimum wage...

Rumours abound about various hourly pay increases once you've worked for x amount of weeks, but do these still apply when working via Angard?

I don't undertand how it works...and I've certainly never come across an employer who seemingly 'rewards' you with a pay decrease...

Yes, Angard "Year rounders" (flexible resource) start on the minimum wage plus night allowance. I started on £6.08, £6.58 for nights, early last year ....less than I'd earnt as a Xmas Night casual in 2010 (RM)and 2011(ANGARD) .

The raise after 12 weeks is because Angard are regarded in law as an Agency, though they are a strange one, and are covered by the AWR - Agency Workers Rights - legislation.
