We will get 10% between us all. Not sure the RM staff count so can't say exactly how much we will get. 20K each is about right i think. :dance

It's unlikely we'll actually "get" anything.
The most likely scenario is that any employee owned shares will be held in trust with the employees receiving an annual dividend/pittance if targets/profits/savings/job losses are met.
£20k is pure fantasy anTi. :cuppa

Remembers colleague shares, it would another scheme like that, that would be my guess, all based on success!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

There is a long way to go on selling the company. Why do you think Moya has gone on her roadshows, it certainly not because its a foregone conclusion.

It Royal Mail is to be sold then then the big money will have to come from the city. Well that's where her problems start who really wants to invest in a company which has a 6.5 billion turn over but struggles to make a profit year on year and the profit this year was largely down to one offs like the sale of Rathbone place.

In addition no other postal administration in the world has split their post office network away from their delivery and processing work. Moreover whilst packets are growing the digital revolution has led to a decline in letters. Royal Mail 's record on delivering modernisation is poor as well , the door to door market has hardly grown since the cap was lifted the average is still less than 3 . Plus a lot if revisions have not gone well.

Oh and to cap it all it would seem our final salary pension going forward ie when you retire you will have all your service prior to 2008 calculated on the final salary is back in a deficit. Plus for whatever people might say any buyer would be concerned with the cwu and the amount of local strikes.

So this is no foregone conclusion and there is a lot to still play for. To the city at the moment and this is from the lobby group Royal Mail is considered as a basket case.

Hence why Moya is so despite to get the rating up and you just know that the full year profit will be a record.

The past service is as safe as houses the future is not and that is the problem.

Nothing new there, it's been in deficit for years.

All pension you've accrued up to April 2012 (RMSPS) is now in the hands of the government, which may not be the ideal solution, but they stand a better chance of paying those £35 Billion of liabilities than RM ever had.

The pension scheme going forward from April 2012 (RMPP), effectively started from scratch and is paid for by both employee and RM contributions.
Personally I would think it's highly unlikely that the scheme would be in any sort of deficit after 9 months.

This company has made a large profit for most of the last 10 years dingo.
Unfortunately it has had to commit around £250 million a year of that profit into paying off a pension deficit.
This year they don't and that's where this year's profit comes from, not from one off sales.

The company is profitable and for a company who's costs are 60% labour a 5% profit margin or around £300 million is par for the course.
We are not the basket case Royal Mail continually paint to the union and unless HQ wakes up shortly the deal will be done right under their noses.
Rumour is UPS are already eyeing up GLS now that the takeover of TNT Express has fallen through.

Can't wait to see the prospectus, sent out to potential shareholders:

The company's key product, letters, is in decline. The company also has - due to competition - a declining share of that declining market.

The company's growth product, packets, is also subject to strong competition. A large slice of the packets market consists of CDs, DVDs and BluRay discs puchased online and sent to customers through the mail. This market is, however, also shrinking, as consumers increasingly opt for direct downloads of mp3s, and have movies streamed to their internet-enabled TV (or other device).

The UK has some of the most skilled managers in the world. Sadly, none of them are employed in Royal Mail.

The company is beset with historic and current industrial relations problems, and is currently spending huge sums of money on delivery methods that are failing in many areas.

Morale among the workforce is at an all-time low.

Be serious. Would you buy shares in such a company ?

It's one thing to pass enabling legislation that makes a sale of Royal Mail possible. Quite another to find a buyer who is willing to take it on !
