Re: april payrise
and how far are we behind the average weekly pay now. remember dave's determination to get us closer and closer to the average weekly wage about 3 or 4 yrs ago. its got to be a hell of a bigger gap now, getting us further and further away from it. ho hum.

Re: april payrise
Cut off king ! Let's be honest , it was not the union who asked for door to door to be moved into workload , Royal Mail have been attempting to do this since 2003 and without any additonal pay. I address members in workplaces and I have been in loads of stormy members meetings and members are not silly , they know that door to door was never going to continue.
The fact is that everyone now gets the same hourly rate for delivering mail in delivery offices regardless of whether your do door to door or you on tracked items which generate more money to your wages.
Let's be honest 3 years on door to door has not increased at the rate they believed , the average is still less then 3 but due to the lifting of the cap some offices are getting hardly any whereas some are getting quite high numbers.
Now Interms of the pay rise talks started this week ,mtye am will be to get an agreement , ballot the members on it and of course it due in less than 14'weeks.
In terms f reaching the average national rate which stands at around £28k well we are currently on 20 400 so still a way off.
However prior to the way forward in 2000 the weekly wage was £211 , it now stands with the permanent supplement at £393.73. I also recall the debates about what's you would have to give up to get to the average which was paid meal reliefs , reserved rights payments , dawn shift , tpm and a range of other supplements.

Re: april payrise
I guess a lump sum payment related to a huge upturn in profits is out of the question this year then?dingo wrote:Talks have commenced this week on a multiple of issues including pay. The other issues include the Price Waterhouse cooper stuff,SWW , payment of the outstanding lump sums, pace of change revisons , pay , pensions , mail centres and network and parcels strategy. in additon there was a heated debate yesterday on the bullying and harrassment where the union now has close on 800 indivdual cases. Royal Mail attempted to trivialise the issues and I think if things are not taken more seriously next week then the union will consider our own response which will be consulting the members and informing the media and the equal Opps commission.
Of course on Royal Mail's. Agenda is also upper decide , performance management ie standards and they want more flexibility.
Anyone who believe that pay will be an easy issue this year is a fool ! Privitisation , the government and the fact that delivery revisons have failed to make the savings Royal Mail wanted and the latest reports from price Waterhouse indicate that in many places they have over estimated the savings they believed they could get.
Remember pay is a contractual issues and unlike the attendance procedure which is not contractural you the member will get a vote on any pay deal.
But anyone who is being honest and know other people in other firms the pay rise we got this year 3.5 was one of thr better in the public and private sector but of course we all want more. remember in this day and age there is no longer a pay deal without strings.
remember prior to 2010 agreement national basic pay stood at £347.61 for a 40 hour week , basic pay which now includes the supplement now stands at £393.73 including the supplement. For the record pau went up in 2010 by 2% and 1.4% in 2011 and of course increase the permanent additon to basic pay.
From memory we used to get £400 for a few years running. Instead we've had (or rather some of us have had) the revision payment to counter act not getting the £400 that we haven't had for the last two years or so.

Re: april payrise
Well for what it's worth those of us who've been here some time said it wasn't going to fly but of course the union went along with RM - actiually embraced the whole issue - the fact that the savings haven't been made isn't our fault. The workforce have jumped through hoops for the last 3 years on this agreement. The union should grow a pair and state quite categorically there is to be a 1 year only pay rise without strings or else. I personally would like to hear an upbeat message from you once in a while not some snivelling times are hard, lifes difficult at the top - well believe it or not dingo life's bloody difficult at the bottom and without a decent pay rise it gets even more difficult. The shop floor doesn't have recourse to expense accounts and nice little holidays in absentia payments and honoraria payments - though we do finance them.

I understand that RM wanted to get D2D's into workload, I also understand that the union captured that monies would have dissapeared into Moya's bonus fund.
But the facts remain that delivery staff see the £20 payment as a direct replacement for D2D monies.
They see that some duties in the office NEVER touch a D2D item from one week to the next, but that duty still gets £20 paid for NO extra work.
They see themself struggling to prep 6 or 7 items while another dudy has just 1 item to prep...an NO allowance in time given for the extra workload.
They look at their payslip where once they were paid £27.55 ( 1.67p X 550 calls X 3 leaflets ) they are now paid £20 to deliver 6 items to 550 calls ( 1.67 X 500 X 6 = £55.11 ) which looks like a kick in the teeth do the delivery staff not to mention £30 lighter
Also delivery staff also have to prep & deliver these items DURING XMAS PRESSURE !
Packet driving duties / indoor duties get the £20 yet have never touched a D2D and have had nothing added to their duty. Letter deliveries have had an INCREASE in workload with no extra prep time But a DECREASE in wages. NDA was also removed and put into the pot resulting in a double whammy to many members pay.
Whatever way its dressed up, the CWU failed to get a FAIR replacement for D2D's monies.
This issue is an open sore, and won't heal until it's been properly addressed.
