Re: Ronseal Deal?
New labour was a big mistake it led the working man into a capitalist mentality without the capital to back it up, It led to working men to turn into managers who thought they were better than their fellow workers and false expectations of a part of our own destiny's (share options) which was a sham by the two Muppets employed by our government at the time!. Which was a NEW LABOUR CAPITALIST GOVERNMENT has it not dawned upon us all we are all ruled by an elite from the upper class even labour I wonder how many working class labour MP's there are? in the house of commoners.

Lib/Lab/Con - they are all the same, bunch of lying shysters...
UKIP is the answer.
However i'm sure that if they get too popular for the establishments's liking, either:
(a) Mr Farage will suffer an "accident"
or
(b) They will face a witch hunt from the media....

Don't believe UKIP has the working man/woman at it's heart it is a populist party at best it will serve the it's benefactors first and the people last.

Re: Ronseal Deal?
New labour came about because the old socialist labour party had become unelectable due to Margaret Thatchers era, where a few crumbs were given away to the social classes (Sale of Corporation Houses, Share ownership). During those same Thatcher years we saw the mass sell off of the nations assetts, while those that were retained were left threadbare.
New labour arrived and realised that mega money needed to be spent to upgrade the nations infrastructure, particularly the schools and hospitals. To be fair during their time there is no doubt that in this respect they were successful. Their failure is in the way they raised the finances to pay for their expenditure boom. They assumed that to remain in power they would need to keep rich and middle Britain onside, and forgot their grass root support. They began to dance to the tune of the big industrialists and courted the private sectors into the health service and other public sector works. They morfed into conservatism without realising how far they had swung to the right. We now have this dispicable condem confusion in place. In two years our infrastructure is creaking again, at a time when putting people to work, getting building companies working would do so much to ignite the economy, and be self financing, rather than what we have, which is a witch hunt on the weakest and infirm in society. Where are we going to find a government that understands the need to look after the wheels and cogs of this country, but creates a fair and equitable way of raising the finances required to make this happen.

A lot of people of my generation said to me communism/socialism is a failed system that cannot work yet capitalism has failed and is being bailed out by us all it is strange to me how an ideology of greed can succeed over need!.Lincox wrote:New labour came about because the old socialist labour party had become unelectable due to Margaret Thatchers era, where a few crumbs were given away to the social classes (Sale of Corporation Houses, Share ownership). Re: Ronseal Deal?
UKIP would not allow the sell-off of Royal Mail to the best of my knowledge, nor would the Greens. Most Labour politicians do not represent the interests of the working class but use their vote as a vehicle to get elected. Both Blair and Heseltine, for example, were opportunists who could have chosen either major political party to get into a position of power.I read recently that a psychological experiment shows that we are actually very poor in terms of judgement as voters in choosing our leaders so perhaps we should blame ourselves. I often wonder how different things would have been if John Smith had not tragically died before his time.
A final point , in the recent poll UKIP was taking votes both from Labour and Tory,so their appeal crosses the boundaries.

Re: Ronseal Deal?
A question for the union people :
New Labour adopted an open-border policy that let in millions of immigrants..
This has ( amongst other things ) caused wages to fall, mainly in un-skilled / semi-skilled work, but also for trades in construction etc.
It has also caused increased unemployment ( remember British jobs for british people haha, who was it who said that ? think he's been a tad quiet these last couple of years.. )
Why havn't the unions kicked up an almighty fuss about this ? Would they have done if it had been the Tories who "opened the doors to all & sundry " ?
Just thought that the raison d'etre of the unions was to protect the working class ?

Re: Ronseal Deal?
New Labour is just a paler blue version of the Conservatives and I cant stand them. However, I think your taking their policy on the EU to an extreme conclusion. They, erroneously in my opinion, accepted the EU agreement on the new countries coming in, and did not place a limit on the numbers coming in. They did not have an open door policy for the rest of the world, just for the EU. Also the DM screamed it would let in millions, but it was more like thousands, maybe a 100,000.savo wrote:A question for the union people :

Immigration only had a part to play in wages going down in real terms, and for unemployment rising, and a small one at that in my opinion. Other causes were the global recession, freezing of wages, credit crunch, Labour and Conservatives policies the sale of gold, unscrupulous bosses paying less than minimum wage etc etc.savo wrote:This has ( amongst other things ) caused wages to fall, mainly in un-skilled / semi-skilled work, but also for trades in construction etc.

About immigration, because immigration is not a cause of the problems its a symptom.savo wrote:Why havn't the unions kicked up an almighty fuss about this ? Would they have done if it had been the Tories who "opened the doors to all & sundry " ?
Yes - but not just British Working Class but all workers.savo wrote:Just thought that the raison d'etre of the unions was to protect the working class ?

Re: Ronseal Deal?
Unemployment is the greatest deflationary pressure on wages.
The employment market is like any other market, over supply(high unemployment) brings down prices(wages) and therefore controls inflation, that's why it's been kept pretty stable for 25 years despite booms, busts and the dreaded but complete red herring immigration.
Thatcher knew it,that's why she didn't care that 3 million were on the dole,it was all good for business.
In work benefits like working tax credits and child tax credits also play their part as an artificial wage stabiliser. Of course Labour paint in-work benefits as some kind of great gift for the low paid and the Tories prefer to paint benefits as something for the scroungers and skivers.
They are both liars, what they are is tax payer subsidies for the rich(employers) in order to keep wages down for the poor(employees).
UKIP are just the guy standing inside his door shouting abuse.
You just know if he gets called out to fight he'll slam the door and shut the curtains.

Never have been a big fan of party politics except when the horse won in the national in 1992, To me too many vested interests and an easy life by big money corporates or donors to me all party's should be banned and the one's who earn the masses vote should win!. It would need state funding but it is better than paying for the clowns who don't represent us all only in the name of the party!.fishtank wrote:Unemployment is the greatest deflationary pressure on wages.

I had money on Party Politics as well.
I think it might have been my last winner.
