Hi Barbel, just to say best of luck to you tomorrow! ....my induction isn't until the 22nd January.
I worked for the RM briefly for 6 months back in the 90's when they still had second deliveries and it doesn't surprise me that people either sink or swm in the first week or two...but it does get a lot easier once you get the hang of it!
I hope things haven't changed too much since the 90's.
Thanks Whizz! I'm really looking forward to it but feeling a bit nervous at the same time. Still can't believe it really as it's taken so long to get this far so I better enjoy it!
Good luck with your induction too..I hope it hasn't changed too much since you last worked for them!

Well at least I don't have to start at 5:30am 6 days a week!
I liked the 5:30 starts - the drunks walking home were still in their mellow stage, now at 6:30 they seem more pissed off than mellow.
D2Ds - the non addressed advertising stuff for every address - you may have had a different name for them when they started in 91. Some callled them households - IIRC you had 2 weeks to take them back then, but now they all go in the same week.

Had my induction today, it was a long day old day from 9-5 but was quite interesting in parts. Got a bit tiring towards the end though watching the endless Dvd's but it was a good day and nice to meet other people in the same situation. Looking forward to starting now tomorrow.
Had a brilliant day today and really enjoyed it! I went out delivering with a couple of nice chaps who showed me the ropes and I seemed to do ok. I couldn't get over how quickly the time went and before I knew it it was time to go home, half an hour early too. I know when I'm left to my own devices I'll probably take a lot longer especially as I'm new but if today is anything to go by I think I'm going to love it. Also got my first wage slip in the post today so it can't be bad.

Decent quality walking shoes/boots would be better than trainers.
This job will kill a bog standard pair of trainers in a fortnight.
Steel toecaps...not necessary.

Thanks for the advice, I'm a runner and spend around £70 on a pair of running shoes every 2 months....and then I wear them for everyday use once I've done about 500 miles in them (which I think would be ideal for work). I just wanted to check that you can wear whatever footwear you want.

Did they give you any uniform today? Also, does everyone wear trainers? I wasn't sure if there are any rules about having to wear steel toe caps?
Thanks Whizz! No I didn't get any uniform today, I have to take my pay number in tomorrow and they will set me up on the system so I can go and order it online.
I wore a pair of black boots at first but they weren't very happy with them because they had a bit of a heel so they asked me to go home and change into my trainers. We were told at the induction that some places don't like you wearing white trainers, which is what i've got, so that is the reason I didn't wear mine to start with. I was also told that the shoes included with the uniform aren't waterproof so I was thinking of getting myself a pair of DM's, that's if they're allowed.

They're not only allowed, they're part of the uniform.
They are a bitch to break in though so i would give it a miss until you've got past the first couple of months.
