Tends to take newbies a few months before more than a handfull speak to them.....unless they are talkative

That can be hard with trying to get up to speed on different walks.

Hated the job for the first 6 months but then it got easier
Chisels? been trying to think what that relates to.

Why is is that newbies are ignored so much

As an example of why this place can be wrong and why Newbies are treated poorly.

A new start did her/his ribs with a fall on duty. As on contract he/she did not get paid. He/she comes back after a couple of days and is patently not fit for purpose.
He/she was still sent out

Only two in the office tried to address this.

One went to the Rep ; who said ' I am not a f***ing Nursemaid'

I went to the Dom and said ' you have a duty of care'

The upshot. He/She is still in and struggling. There are light duties that could be given. But no

Why do I despair at RM?

Now i do not know the circumstances with the individual. The income is desperately needed ? I dont know. Why would anyone go to work in the state that they are in.

A simple "well done" or a "you did really well today" would go down a treat. Some praise would go a long long way.

I've been at RM since Wednesday and only once has an old timer given me any praise.

Okay, I here you say, I could be doing a bad job but we seem to finishing within the time expected by my partners and apart from persistent problems with PDA everything seems to be going smoothly.

The training, as expected is based along the lines of make it up as we go along, very little structure.

The DOM seems fine, the office seems a happy place to work in with everybody having a laugh and a right old P*** take whilst sorting.

Overall, my initial impression is a positive one and when I'm out delivering I really enjoy it.

I must say here I do feel a proper fully fledged postie now .......................................................... I've dropped elastic bands on the pavements! :dance
Somebody called me a cult the other day, well I think that was what he said!

Tell new starters about this site, they will work out the reality of RM. Initially they will think everyone posting on this site is bitter and twisted. Give em a few weeks and they will be joining everyone else.

Hi

I started 6 weeks ago. Told I am a spare being moved from walk to walk not had any real training. I have been paired with experienced posties but feel I am slowing them down with the sort as well as deliveries, due to my constant moving around without learning the job on same walk. How long does it take to be efficient with the sorting so we can get out on time at least? Any advise welcome.

Same here Mary only I started a week ago. I'm virtually running everywhere as not to slow my partner down.

( '..and I don't want to have to tell you again.' arrghh I'm becoming a dim!! that's something else he used to say..

pittar patter., pittar patter, that's the sound of me running away to hide in the office :d'oh! )
