you've been badly treated by management and staff what a joke. remember a bullying and harasment complaint can be made about all rm staff not just management.
if it were me I would have warned the driver that you would complain next time he talks to you like that. I would do say same to manager. I would also contact area manager about being told to drive dangerous vehicle and see what action if takes.
if our H&S guy heard about this happening in our depot he would be all over it. just an 'electrical fault' means nothing. abs is an electrical based system! so what does that mean? was it working intermittently or not at all? who knows.
never take a chance with brakes. my brother found out how dangerous abs faults can be when his suddenly stopped working under hard braking and he fishtailed across three lanes of motorway.
stay safe :-D

Re: refused to drive van, where do I stand
I did take out a B&H complaint, but it got knocked back and was told to take out a grievance. It was a joke when RM personnel phoned me up, at one point the person said it was not serious enough. Things have moved on, the old manager has left RM, and many issues are now seeing the light of day. What I can now say is RM do NOT want B&H complaints, many people have said this and I now have first hand experience of this behaviour.

from how I understand is a B&H case can only proceed if there is a history of abuse rather than a one off instance. it also helps greatly if you have warned the person you are feeling harassed but they continue regardless. that's maybe why it didn't proceed. if it happens again that's different.

Re: refused to drive van, where do I stand
Many thanks for the info, where I work there is daily B&H from most people, to be honest I have done it myself with out realising it. Thats not an excuse, the whole culture is rotten, the last manager really manipulated the divides to get an easy life. and there are a few co workers who really enjoy it. The positive out come from this is a few co workers have now said I did right and one said maybe we should all stand our ground more often.meercat wrote:from how I understand is a B&H case can only proceed if there is a history of abuse rather than a one off instance. it also helps greatly if you have warned the person you are feeling harassed but they continue regardless. that's maybe why it didn't proceed. if it happens again that's different.

Re: refused to drive van, where do I stand
its a sad day I have to say with all this going on and so called work collegues not sticking together and backing each other, safety issues such as van faults should always be treated seriously and not fobbed off by other staff and management just because its an inconvenience to hire another van etc,if our fleet was up to spec this would help

Can I refuse to drive a van if it has a LGBT logo on it if it stands against my religious beliefs?? Can I get sacked for it?

Royal Mail bosses are good at that, when you start work for royal mail you are full of pride and confidence by the end you end up a quivering wreck.newtimes wrote: ↑30 Nov 2012, 16:33Thank you, I know I did right but when everyone about you is questioning your ability, you do start to doubt yourself. My self confidence is being chipped away.fishtank wrote:No,of course they shouldn't have.newtimes wrote:If this is right should the garage of released this vehicle to go into service.
It's completely irrelevant that the faulty ABS light was simply an electrical fault, the fact that it wasn't working properly means that obviously had something actually gone wrong with the ABS you would have had no ABS warning light to tell you.
Brakes will normally continue to work without ABS but your stopping distance and the response of the vehicle under heavy braking is altered significantly.
That could be the difference between life and death.
