Reference contact details urgently needed
I've applied for other jobs after my stint as a Christmas casual at the Royal Mail MDEC in Stockport and have been asked to fill in a form asking for the telephone number and e-mail address of my line manager. However, I don't have this info. I've sent an e-mail to Angard but they haven't yet replied. Does anyone know how I can obtain this information?

RM and Angard both have a standard template they use as a reference. You should get this around the time you get your P45. You can then pass this to your employer to send off to get details from Angard or RM - whoever you worked for. Not sure how effective the system is and the details supplied IIRC is basically job title and dates from and dates to you worked and possibly where you worked.
Not exactly great as a reference.

I have heard the same as verging. It's basically yes they worked from x date -x date. Nothing else. They don't put that you were polite, prompt, reliable etc... So not a fat lot of good for other jobs really.

to be honest I am pretty sure that is almost expected these days, part of my volunteering brings me into contact with reference's from a wide array of companys, and nearly all of them are exactly the same.thefemalepostie wrote:I have heard the same as verging. Its a wonder firms even use them anymore.

Really? All the references I have ever had have stated work dates and attitude and competency etc... Some have just been a tick box style, ie excellent, good, neutral, poor etc ... But always more than just dates and job title.wamdue wrote:to be honest I am pretty sure that is almost expected these days, part of my volunteering brings me into contact with reference's from a wide array of companys, and nearly all of them are exactly the same.thefemalepostie wrote:I have heard the same as verging. Re: Reference contact details urgently needed
When I left Angard to take my new job I needed a reference and one of my old managers kindly completed the form that my new employers wanted. I did complete 10 months so you have a different understanding with the managers than if you just worked Christmas where they don't have enough time to know you.

Our manager said just to email him for a reference, but I don't know if it's just going to be his contact details to send to employers, a polite wee email message or if it will be sent to the house on company paper etc.

Yes, I've heard this too but this was my first job and they want the details of my most recent employer so there's not a lot I can do about it.Verging wrote:RM and Angard both have a standard template they use as a reference. In the end, I phoned Angard who told me to send an e-mail to angard.referencing@reedglobal.com if I want a reference so I just put that down since I have nothing else apart from the name of my line manager.
